The Safety Specialist Sr. is responsible for maintaining current safety programs and implementing best practices/procedures for continuous improvement and effectiveness of the Safety Management System. This includes tracking and retaining safety inspection schedules, findings, and activities; developing and conducting safety compliance training and inspections; and ensuring compliance with safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
This position will consistently interact with: all employees of the institute.
This position will typically advise and counsel: faculty, staff, and students.

Job Duty 1 -
Develop and maintain comprehensive safety inspection checklists, leveraging those provided from Institute Environmental Health & Safety (EHS); maintain a detailed calendar and records of safety inspections and outcomes
Job Duty 2 -
Conduct training in all safety topics; assist in developing training content and maintaining safety references, SOPs, and guidance materials, including Red Books and safety websites
Job Duty 3 -
Review construction and renovation plans for compliance with general safety regulations, and conduct safety inspections for all active capital, modernization, and field office location projects
Job Duty 4 -
Perform routine inspections and job-site condition evaluations, as scheduled, or upon request, for compliance with physical safety standards, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance; report any non-compliance or hazardous conditions to management, and conduct follow-up inspections until safe
Job Duty 5 -
In coordination with EHS, assist in developing policies and procedures to ensure ongoing safety best practices and accident prevention, including developing corrective action plans for general safety non-compliance, and auditing general safety programs
Job Duty 6 -
Serve as a member of the Georgia Tech Environmental Health & Safety team, including attending meetings/trainings, interfacing with the team, partnering on job activities, and collaborating on programmatic safety initiatives
Job Duty 7 -
Participate in job safety analyses, risk assessments, and ergonomic assessments
Job Duty 8 -
Investigate accidents and injuries, including completing an incident report within 24-48 hours of the accident/injury, and managing the corrective action plan until resolved
Job Duty 9 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Safety or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Six or more years of job-related experience
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) OSHA 10, OSHA 30
Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience documenting and tracking safety inspection schedules, findings, and activities.
Experience maintaining comprehensive safety inspection checklists; ability to leverage those provided from Institute Environmental Health & Safety
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations; must have knowledge in machine shop and crane safety, working at heights safety, lock-out tag-out, confined space, trenching, ergonomics and other general industry standards
