The Global Industry Technology Cooperation Center (GITCC) is seeking a Sr. Science Writer to assist faculty and researchers in advancing their research competitiveness, fostering industry collaborations, and securing external funding through large-scale, collaborative grant submissions. Sr. Science Writer will play a crucial role in supporting strategic initiatives that align with GITCC's mission to drive innovation and global partnerships in biotechnology and related fields.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Communicate highly complex scientific and technical information clearly and compellingly, ensuring both technical and non-technical audiences can understand the material.
- Draft, proofread, standardize, and edit sections of grant proposals, ensuring consistency with sponsor guidelines and GITCC objectives.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts across Johns Hopkins and global industry partners to synthesize technical content for proposals and reports.
- Monitor industry trends and key developments in biotechnology, higher education, and global research initiatives, sharing relevant information with GITCC faculty and stakeholders.
- Conduct research projects related to GITCC's initiatives, such as global research funding opportunities and emerging biotechnology advancements.
- Develop and sustain strong communication channels with university leadership, faculty, global partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in strategic planning and kick-off meetings for Requests for Proposals (RFPs) involving GITCC and its collaborators.
- Work on special projects and strategic communication initiatives for the Director of GITCC, including developing materials for high-level presentations and international partnerships.
- Assist in managing the editorial process for major publications, ensuring alignment with GITCC's strategic objectives.
- May direct the activities of other staff members in support of editorial or research tasks.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess in-depth subject matter knowledge.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to craft technical information for a diverse audience.
- Strong research, analytical, and storytelling skills, with an understanding of biotechnology and industry-academia collaboration.
- Experience with grant writing, editing, and managing large collaborative projects, preferably in a fast-paced research environment.
- Familiarity with reference management software such as EndNote and RefWorks.
- Ability to quickly synthesize and analyze complex information to produce high-quality written materials.
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to balance multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently while also collaborating effectively with team members and external partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in related technical/scientific field.
- One-year related experience.
- Writing samples may be requested during the selection process.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD Degree in a technical/scientific field related to biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or a similar discipline. Clinical knowledge is a plus.
- Three years of relevant experience in science writing or grant development.

Starting Salary Range: $32.25 - $56.46 HRLY ($43,250 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
