Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of various controls systems including Automated Logic Controls, Barber Coleman, Alerton, Siemens, & Delta.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Manager is responsible for administrative and supervisory work in directing the day to day operations of the Building HVAC Shop. This position will assist in overall operations as manager directs and is empowered to act with autonomy within established boundaries. This also includes: planning, organizing and directing HVAC personnel, hold regular meetings with frontline staff, and assists in conducting regular inspections of both preventative and corrective maintenance work performed by staff to ensure standards are met.

Work is performed under the direction of the Building HVAC Shop Manager is evaluated through observation in terms of system reliability and service to Campus. All other related duties as assigned. Activities and decisions are varied in nature, requiring independent action and judgment in solving problems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, & tools of the HVAC Trade
  • Communicate effectively(verbal & written) 3.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AIM, Onesource, etc.
  • Understanding of technical documents(engineering plans, specifications, drawings, control diagrams, & other technical documents)

  • Ability to lift 75 lbs
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions(e.g. cold, heat, rain)
  • Ability to work from a standard or extended ladder.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, crawl, climb and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to sit at and work at a computer for extended periods of time.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans, schedules, and directs preventative and corrective maintenance of HVAC systems over the entire campus for Resident Instruction, Auxiliary, Dining Services, Housing and Research Facilities including University Research Animal Resources (URAR), and the University Veterinary Medicine College.
  • Supervise and direct the day-to-day operations of the Building HVAC shop and employees.
  • Provide oversight and direction to Building HVAC shop employees in order to provide consistent and reliable performance of HVAC systems to the facilities of UGA campus.
  • Perform daily administrative functions that directly support the operational needs for the maintenance of campus HVAC systems and the personnel responsible for maintaining and repairing these systems.
