Position Summary:This position is in the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences Department in Blake Billmyre’s lab. This incumbent will help establish a research program focused on high throughput genetic analysis of fungal pathogens. This will include the use of molecular genetic, microbiological, chemical genetic, and bioinformatic approaches to understand evolution of complex traits involved in fungal virulence, to understand the emergence of antifungal resistance, and to guide the development of novel antifungal agents. The employee will be working closely with the principal investigator in a small laboratory environment with growth potential.

Duties/Responsibilities:Perform Research in the Lab Setting:
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
- Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects such as:
- Microbiological and molecular genetic techniques (PCR and CRISPR) to culture and genetically manipulate pathogenic fungi, including Cryptococcus neoformans.
- Generate high throughput sequencing libraries using PCR.
- Perform cloning using standard molecular biology approaches.
- Tabulate and analyze research.
- Collecting, recording, analyzing, and presenting data.

Duties/Responsibilities:Help Support Lab Operations:
- Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.
- Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
- Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.
- Review, complete, and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
- Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.
- Review and implement lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations, and management need.

Duties/Responsibilities:Discuss and Present Findings:
- Preparation of project reports and manuscripts for publication.
- Meet with Dr. Billmyre regularly for progress updates and mentoring.
