The Department of Electromechanical Engineering (EME) of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) invites applications for the position of Full/Associate/Assistant Professor in Robotics. It will be a joint position with the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) of the Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI). This position is intended to complement and strengthen existing faculty staff expertise. We are seeking candidate with a proven track record in scientific research, an innovative research vision, and a commitment to education.
FST is the oldest and one of the most vibrant faculties at UM, dedicated to student-centric education and cutting-edge research in engineering and science. All of its bachelor s degree programmes in engineering and computer science are accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and recognized worldwide. UM is among the top 1% in Essential Sciences Indicators (ESI) rankings in both Engineering and Computer Science. In the THE World University Ranks, the Engineering programme is ranked among the 126th 150th, arising from its status of a local community college in less than 10 years. EME, where the position is to be hosted, currently has 16 academic staff. The Department offers Bachelor s, Master s and PhD degree programmes, which emphasize Mechanical Engineering (ME), while educating the students to take advantage of robotics, vehicles, and intelligent systems, fluid flow and heat transfer, advanced materials and manufacturing for practical applications in ME like smart building services, engineering systems management, transportation vehicles, robots and smart systems, etc. The programmes have extensive collaboration with other institutes around the world.
ICI aims to create a fertile education and research environment for developing innovative technologies and serving society. CAIR, one of the research centers under ICI, is dedicated to advancing the research in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, CAIR possesses expertise in robotics, and it is expected that more high-profile research work will be carried out and interdisciplinary collaboration in robotics research will further be promoted.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or related areas. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching experience at the tertiary education level. To accord the future development, candidates with specialization in frontier robotics technologies in particular mobile robotics and embodied robotics are preferred.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in early 2025.
Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approx. USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approx. USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
