Duties:Under general supervision, the Dispatcher receives and transmits all emergency and non-emergency communications by telephone, two-way radios and/or in person for the Moraine Valley Police Department; serves and assists faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the campus as well as other duties as assigned. The Dispatcher is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all information and activities, Ensure all responses and requests are handled in a prompt, courteous, efficient and professional manner at all times and under all circumstances; Achieve and maintain certifications in CPR, First aid, Blood-borne pathogen awareness, AED and operation of LEADS which include running license plates, driver’s license, criminal histories, warrant checks with full access certification; Assign priority to calls dispatched and provide information to responding officers; Operate and respond to office, emergency, elevator and parking lot telephones, as well as TTD/TTY line for the hearing impaired; Maintain and respond to campus office panic alarm system; Operate and respond to 2-way radios and monitor 2-way radio traffic; dispatch calls for service in a timely manner for three campuses; Monitor weather conditions, surveillance systems, fire alarms and coordinate activities; Maintain data required by federal law; Notify Campus Operations of needed emergency repairs and inform college administrators of emergency situations; Support investigations and processes, Maintain records, process and update citations and other information; Serve as the primary point of contact during all campus emergencies, coordinate staff activities in achieving assigned tasks, and perform related duties as assigned.
Education/Training:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required along with NIMS 100 certificate or higher ratings by FEMA, or a minimum of 30 hours of college course work in the Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Fire Operations, Security Operations, or be a certified Police, Fire Officer or Certified Security Specialist.
Experience: This position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a dispatcher or a related function.
Certification:
Must have completed certification program for Law Enforcement Agencies Data System less than full access to apply or had previously held a “Full Access” LEADS certification.
Matron Certification will be required 6 months after hiring.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. In addition to above qualification requirements, other qualities sought:
· Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos; Ability to write correspondence and ability to communicate effectively· Requires analysis, gathering of facts, and preliminary study of data and manual coordination.· Ability to type 25+ wpm· Must have neat and legible writing skills· Ability to use a PC computer, photocopier, and needed technology· Adequate knowledge of MS Office (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Publisher)· Must be able to file accurately and maintain confidentiality as appropriate· Must be able to work in a fast place environment, while multi-tasking during the shift· Ability to multitask between dispatch, phone and lobby walk-in responsibilities
Full Time
Hours:40 hours per week –
This position is subject to shift assignments, weekends, and holidays.
$ 22.87/hour plus exceptional benefits
