Duties:

Under the direction and supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, or the Lead Maintenance Mechanic in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, The Maintenance Mechanic IV maintains and repairs all college electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling systems and programs and operates building automaton systems. The Maintenance Mechanic IV is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

Responsibilities and Duties include:

Receives work assignments, work orders, and instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor or the Lead Maintenance Mechanic. Study and interpret mechanical or electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings or sketches to install new equipment or troubleshoot mechanical or electrical problems; plans and determines working procedures and tool and materials requirements. Correct defective mechanical devices and other equipment by disassembling, installing new parts, refitting; adjusts and maintains mechanical equipment. Install air, water, gas and refrigerant lines; repair and maintain plumbing. Repair and maintain temperature control systems. Repair and maintain all college HVAC systems. Repair and maintain AC & DC electrical systems. Repair and maintain electronic equipment and systems. Operate and program the building automation system. Responsible for the maintenance of the college’s swimming pool. Clean boilers, add chemicals to boiler water, cooling towers and closed water systems. Make chemical tests as required and keeps boiler house log and other duties as assigned. May act as lead worker in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Lead Maintenance Mechanic.

Education/Experience:

Required Experience/Education

High school or general education degree (GED) and ten (10) years of work experience as a skilled maintenance mechanic required.

Certifications
Moraine Valley Community College approved Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Certificate or equivalent; City of Chicago Stationary Engineer’s License; EPA approved Universal or Type III Technician Certification; Certificate of Completion of Johnson Controls Metasys EMS System.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to qualify as insurable by college liability insurance carrier; Illinois Swimming Pool Operators certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and use a ladder, scaffolding, and bucket truck; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Will require the employee to be on-call for weekend work when necessary.

· Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and written instructions.· Ability to communicate effectively and respond to college personnel.· Basic computational skills.· Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.· Demonstrate required knowledge of test equipment, shop machinery and hand tools to perform diverse repair operations.· Demonstrate knowledge of heating and cooling systems in order to troubleshoot and make extensive repairs.· Demonstrate knowledge of building automation systems including basic programming and ability to make modifications of the systems.· Possess a positive and service oriented attitude.

Wednesday – Sunday Shift
On-call when necessary

Minimum Starting Rate:

$27.58 + Exceptional Benefits
