Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure Track

The Division of Health Services Research and Policy in the Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is seeking an exceptional candidate for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. The Department of Public Health Sciences has more than 30 faculty and over 250 graduate students. Five Divisions are housed within the DPHS: Health Services Research and Policy, Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences, Prevention Science and Community Health, Biostatistics, and Environment and Public Health. The DPHS culture is multidisciplinary and collaborative, with many ongoing research grants involving faculty from multiple divisions. The DPHS is the best National Institutes of Health-funded Department at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine.

Our mission in the Division of Health Services Research and Policy is to conduct innovative health services, health economics, and health policy research across a broad range of areas including: health systems financing, economic impact, decision making, organizational structures and processes, population health, chronic disease, substance use and mental health disorders, harm reduction, clinical intervention development and implementation, global health and ethics, and provider and patient personal behaviors that affect access, quality, and cost of health care. The Division is especially strong in the areas of behavioral health services research and health policy. For example, one of our HSRP faculty is the director of the Florida Node of the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s Clinical Trials Network - featuring intervention development, testing, and evaluation opportunities relating to the treatment of substance use disorders, HIV, and HCV. Our faculty are also involved in several multidisciplinary research centers and institutes including the Center for Health Economics of Treatment Interventions for Substance Use Disorders, HCV, and HIV (CHERISH), Center for HIV and Research in Mental Health (CHARM), Center for Treatment Research on Adolescent Drug Abuse (CTRADA), the University of Miami Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy, and the Brief Strategic Family Therapy Institute. The DPHS is expanding research and public health practice opportunities in Latin America as well. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a portfolio of extramural funding as a principal investigator and co-investigator.

Candidates should have the ability to:

Conduct innovative scholarly research in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, collaborative environment. Obtain/maintain peer-reviewed funding to support research program. Be open to collaboration with other departments, divisions, centers, and institutes within the Miller School of Medicine and across the University of Miami. Teach and mentor students in the Master of Public Health program, the MD/MPH program, the online Master of Public Health program, and other joint degree programs in the DPHS. Contribute to the development of graduate joint degree programs featuring combinations of public health, law, business, and health administration. Publish research findings in high impact journals, book chapters, books, policy briefs, and op-ed pieces. Serve on DPHS committees (e.g., Admissions Committee, Curriculum Committee).

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (MD or PhD) in health services research, economics, health policy, or related area.
  • An extramurally funded program of research and solid track record of high impact publications.
  • Effective oral and written communications including teaching experience and presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Teaching experience with excellent course evaluations.
  • Experience mentoring graduate students through independent projects, participation in master’s thesis and dissertation committees.
