The Opportunity and Who You'll Work With:

Position Type: Permanent, Full Time, Benefits Eligible

Work Format: Hybrid, minimum of 3 days onsite with up to 2 days remote. Occasional travel required.

Schedule: Monday - Friday. Hours are typically 09:00AM-05:00PM ET with occasional evening and weekend work required.

WBUR's Membership team is responsible for converting listeners and readers into contributors. From roughly 60,000 members who give voluntarily, the Membership program generates approximately $11M annually. This team is responsible for not only converting consumers to Members but also ensuring that our members have an exceptional experience. We are committed to growing our program and innovating in order to fund, in part, WBUR and NPR's journalism and storytelling. The work environment is fast paced, and meeting deadlines is critical for success. We hold approximately 5-6 core fundraising campaigns per year and revenue is generated through those campaigns and a host of channels.

WBUR's Membership team is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial-minded professional to fill the role of Senior Membership Specialist, Engagement and Donor Conversion. In this program management focused role, you will be responsible for developing, communicating, and fulfilling the value proposition of being a member. You will manage key projects from initiation to completion while developing membership conversion strategies for WBUR, the Circle Round Club and other WBUR podcasts. You will perform essential administrative tasks to provide donors with an exemplary giving experience and strengthen donor engagement. This position reports to our Associate Director, Membership Operations.

Essential Functions:
  • (20%) Manage WBUR Member stewardship, including the development of communications and the creation and execution of additional appreciation strategies.
  • (20%) Collaborate with Membership colleagues, as well as cross-functional teams, to ensure success of the Membership program and align goals with organizational objectives.
  • (20%) Oversee the development and distribution of benefits, including member events, newsletter, and member card.
  • (20%) Manage Circle Round Club donation program to meet or exceed revenue goals for our children's podcast. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop fundraising strategy, manage benefit fulfillment, support live events, and provide an exemplary donor experience.
  • (10%) Lead the planning, execution, and closure of assigned projects within scope and on schedule. Monitor and report on project progress as needed.
  • (10%) Assist with member services including answering donor inquiries via phone and email.


Required Skills

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field; or equivalent/relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years of work experience.
  • Experience in fundraising, project management, or similar roles.


Capabilities and Proficiencies:

  • An excitement about WBUR's mission to provide an essential public good: high-quality journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community.

  • Proficiency with digital marketing tools such as MailChimp, Constant Contact or MarketingCloud; donation management platforms; and CRM software such as Salesforce.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an orientation to collaboration.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.

  • Passion for podcasts and digital media.

  • Familiarity with podcast subscription platforms such as SupportingCast or Patreon.
