Medical Research Specialist.CMVTNPRC - Immunology

Location: Covington, LA

Summary

The employee will work as a Medical Research Specialist in the Division of Immunology, Tulane National Primate Research Center. The employee will be responsible for performing experiments in the level 2 and level 3 laboratories. The primary site where work will be performed will be in the TNPRC Building 2. The employee will be trained in Biosafety protocols by the Principal Investigator as well as by the Institutional Department of Biosafety. Necessary experiments include those involving molecular biology, immunology, and microbiology, in adherence with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) in place. The candidate should be able to work independently under biosafety level 2+ conditions, maintain records of experiments, perform analysis and report findings to PI. The candidate should be able to assist in development of new techniques as well as train less experienced laboratory personnel. The candidate will also be in overall charge of the laboratory including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and general laboratory maintenance.

Required Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree in a biological sciences field with 3 years of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplines OR •High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 9 years of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

·Experience with cellular immunology techniques such as ELISPOT assays, cytotoxicity assays, ELISA, and flow cytometry assays and with molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extraction, and real time PCR.

·Knowledge of BSL2 and BSL3 bio-containment principles, both for animal and laboratory space

·Familiarity with basic computational tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.

·Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
