  • $77,235+ commensurate with experience and academic qualifications annual, Exempt
  • This position will work onsite.
Purpose of Position

The Behavioral Health Specialist will engage in scholarly activity as outlined in the UNDSMHS Department of Family and Community Medicine Guidelines on Promotion and Tenure. The Behavioral Health Specialist will share responsibilities with the Program Director and other faculty for the design and implementation of the educational program of the residency under the guidelines and direction of the Department of Family and Community Medicine of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Behavioral Health Specialist will provide integrated behavioral health services at CFM by providing psychosocial evaluation and treatment. The Behavioral Health Specialist will be under the direct supervision of the Program Director of the residency.

Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Contribute, through patient care activities, to the revenue of the Center for Family Medicine (CFM)
  • Provide integrated behavioral health services at CFM by providing psychosocial evaluation and treatment
  • Provide opportunities for cross-discipline collaboration for residents
  • Maintenance of appropriate medical and billing records is expected

Teaching

  • Participate in the clinical and didactic educational programs of the CFM residency
  • Give and/or organize lectures to residents on behavioral health curriculum
  • Organize resident scheduling Adult/Child Psychiatry rotation
  • Serve as the liaison between the CFM residency and community psychiatrists to maximize learning opportunities for resident education in behavioral health Research and Scholarly Activity

Research and Scholarly Activity

  • CFM faculty members are expected to take a scholarly approach to their work. Various expressions of research and scholarly activity are outlined in the UND SMHS Department of Family and Community Medicine Guidelines on Promotion and Tenure

Service

  • Professional and community service and contributions to society are a professional responsibility of this position. Examples of recognized avenues for service to the University, the SMHS, the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the CFM are outline din the UND Department of Family and Community Medicine Guidelines on Promotion and Tenure

Administration

  • Assist the Program Director to ensure the program's compliance with UND SMHS and applicable ACGME accreditation standards

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent
  • 2 years experience in mental health field
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in North Dakota
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Mental Health Counseling, Psychiatry, Psychology, Medical Social Work
  • Experience teaching residents or medical students in a clinical setting
  • 1-year didactic teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development
  • Demonstrated experience of participation in scholarly activity
