Job Details
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, operate, and repair electrical equipment and systems of all types in accordance with the latest NC guidelines.
- Perform preventative maintenance on all existing electrical systems and equipment.
- Keep all work areas and related electrical equipment and/or tool rooms clean at all times.
- Take care of all tools belonging to the institution that are being used by the electrical department.
- Provide quick and efficient response to campus emergencies.
- Perform other similar and related duties as assigned that utilize the employee's education, experience and unique skill set.
- Actively participate and complete training, personal development, and continuing education.
- Maintain compliance with national, state and local codes.
Supplemental Functions
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Perform all duties to maintain all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures, and core values.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices of the assigned trade
- Basic knowledge and ability to install, operate, maintain and install of building systems and associated equipment
- Knowledge of occupational and safety hazards in trade and PPE & processes to prevent accidents
- Basic understanding of other trades and able to perform or assist in the completion of them
- Skilled in proper use of the tools, equipment and devices used in the construction and maintenance trade
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Able to work and respond on weekends, holidays and after hours
Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, plus pushing, pulling and lifting. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises, gases and workspace restrictions. In addition, incumbents may be subjected to vibrations, chemicals and oils. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Frequent physical effort required.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED and three (3) years experience as a licensed journeyman in the electrical trade required.
Licenses and Certifications
Journeyman electrician license required.
Valid Texas Driver’s License* and insurability with the college's insurance carrier.
**Individuals hired for this position may be required to drive a company vehicle. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run in conjunction with the background check during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually for the duration of employment at Collin College. Candidates who fail the original background/MVR report or subsequent MVR reports may not be hired and/or terminated based on the results of the report.**
