To perform professional-level engineering and scientific research assignments. Performs supervisory or highly complex engineering work at a professional level in the evaluation, review, selection, adaptation, and modification of standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Review moderately to highly complex requests for exceptions to public water system design standards submitted by licensed professional engineers and other water supply professionals. Draft appropriate correspondence memorializing decision for review and signature of supervisor or other senior staff.
- Provide feedback and guidance for decisions made for exceptions and plan review relating to well construction and potential surrounding sanitary hazards upon request.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and assist team leader with management level reviews of less senior staff.
- Provide technical assistance to consulting engineers, city and county officials, water system owners and operators, agency staff, other governmental agencies, and the public.
- Assist with the training of any new employee(s) and ensure new employee(s) have tools needed to both understand and the technical and administrative sides of the program. Peer-review correspondence by other staff and provide appropriate comments.
- Performs other duties assigned.
- Master’s degree in the field of assignment with four (4) years of full-time engineering experience.
- Direct related experience may substitute for required education.
- Two (2) years of experience in reviewing exception requests to public water system design standards.
- One (1) year experience of technical assistance and guidance of plan reviews relating to well construction.
- Follows all applicable institutional standard operating procedures.
- Adheres to institutional paper and electronic file management requirements.
