WHAT OUR DEPARTMENT DOES
The Human Resources Department supports the Foundation's mission by providing quality customer service and guidance in the areas of recruitment and onboarding, compensation and benefits administration, training, and employee relations. SDSURF HR strives to create a positive employee experience throughout the entire employee lifecycle. Through strategic partnerships, the Human Resources department helps attract and retain qualified, diverse, and competent talent who are committed to the success of the Research Foundation.
Responsibilities
YOUR ROLE IN CREATING THE UNIVERSITY'S PRESENT AND FUTURE
Under the general direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Training and Compliance Manager will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering professional development courses for employees across the Research Foundation. This work includes collaborating with key stakeholders to identify organizational needs, leveraging current programs and courses, creating and sourcing appropriate materials for in-person and online delivery, and evaluating the effectiveness of professional development offerings. The Manager is also responsible for ensuring our policies and procedures best meet the goals and objectives of the Research Foundation and are compliant with laws and regulations.
THE WORK YOU WILL DO AND MANAGE
The Training and Compliance Manager will engage with employees to identify training needs using a variety of assessment tools, design and deliver management and leadership development programs on a variety of topics, analyze organizational areas for development, identify root causes, and propose actionable strategies. This position is key to the HR department and will work with a variety of stakeholders to create and pilot a mentorship program, create learning opportunities, facilitate large and small group sessions and identify existing training programs and resources, and expand, modify, or implement as necessary to meet the needs of the SDSU Research Foundation.
This position will support the compliance efforts of the Human Resources department by conducting a study of all Human Resources, policies, programs, and practices and making recommendations on updates and improvements. To support these efforts, the Manager will monitor legislative updates and changes to case law to ensure compliance, assess impact on policies and procedures, and handle revisions when necessary. Performance management is integral to the growth and development of our employees. This position will oversee the development and implementation of the performance feedback program, provide advice and recommendations to management and staff and provide ongoing oversight and support to ensure that performance measures are being used effectively to manage operations, identify and manage risks, and effect organizational change.
This position is responsible for the supervision, direction, and mentorship of the Training & Compliance Associate and will oversee the daily workload associated with training and compliance.
Qualifications
THE SKILLS WE NEED
- Knowledge of the principles of human resource administration.
- Experience with learning development software and collaboration tools such as Articulate, MS Teams, Photoshop, Zoom); proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Knowledge of labor laws applicable to Federal Contractors and principles of equal employment opportunity.
- Expertise in the independent design and development of informal and formal learning solutions to meet organizational needs.
- Experience in analyzing and selecting the most appropriate strategy, methodologies, and technologies to maximize the learning experience and impact.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills that effectively respond to learner needs, are made available in appropriate platforms, and are delivered in a manner that both engages the learner and produces the desired outcomes.
- Ability to gather, organize, analyze, and report metrics that measure the impact of learning solutions on strategic objectives and inform organizational decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and consult with individuals at all organizational levels by establishing business partner and stakeholder relationships based on personal credibility, trust, and respect.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills including strong written and verbal communication, active listening with insightful comprehension, responsiveness to nonverbal cues, appreciation for diverse perspectives, willingness to accept and incorporate feedback, accountability for results, and keen interest in partnering with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of performance appraisal and performance management methods; mentoring and coaching techniques.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of cross-cultural sensitivity.
Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field or additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
- Four-years of related experience; two of which in a progressively responsible supervisory or management role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the development or delivery of an effective mentorship program.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver management, leadership, or professional development programs using a blended learning approach.
- Experience in the training (or related) field, preferably in higher education or non-profit.
- Accomplished facilitator able to deliver engaging and though provoking workshops for employees at all levels across the Foundation in both online and in person venues.
- Certification in psychometric tools such as DISC, Strengths, True Colors.
