Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Analyst. Hollins University has a strong financial foundation including a $300 million endowment, no external debt, a robust fundraising history, and has recently launched the HOPE scholars’ program nationwide. The HOPE scholars program provides eligible undergraduates with a scholarship up to the direct cost of attendance.
About the Role
The analyst is primarily responsible for supporting treasury, tax, and financial reporting for the university. Additionally, this position reports to and assists the controller with financial reporting of the HOPE scholars’ program, as well as providing coverage in the payroll and accounts payable areas.
Specific duties include the following:
- Oversee cash flows to ensure the availability of funds for daily operations. Serve as primary liaison for treasury operations, investments, and related compliance.
- Monitor pre- and post- award administration of federal and state grant programs, including safeguarding and disbursement of funds and submission of required financial reporting.
- Support the controller with advancement activity (review of pledge, endowment, and deferred giving agreements) and reconciliation of campaign funds declared versus funds posted to the general ledger.
- Review and analyze current operation budgets. Work closely with departments to address and prevent budget overruns. Incorporate information from various sources to draw conclusions; to effect change in processes, procedures, and reporting; and/or theorize downstream impacts.
- Provide support for year-end close, audits, account reconciliation research, and process improvements.
- Prepare operational tax filings and payments and coordinate inquiries from regulatory agencies and third parties.
- Perform research and interpret technical guidelines, policies, and procedures, as well as describe moderately complex information and presentation materials.
Position Qualifications
Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of three years of financial or accounting experience.
- Extensive Microsoft Excel experience and proficiency in the use of computerized systems, notably Word, SharePoint, Adobe, and database/business intelligence applications.
- Analytical skills to analyze and draw conclusions for financial and statistical data while ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data sources.
- Strong prioritization, organization, and time management skills.
- Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of campus constituencies.
- Ability to handle sophisticated work and provide mentorship to less experienced staff.
- Selected candidate will be subject to criminal history and credit history background checks.
Preferred candidates will have the following:
- Financial or accounting experience in a university, public accounting, or non-profit setting.
- Investment, banking, and/or budget experience.
- System knowledge with BI Query, Orbit Analytics, and/or Ellucian Banner.
