Job Title:Grants & Contracts Specialist

Department:Arts and Sciences | Research Administration

The Grants and Contracts Specialist will cover all the sponsored research activities for selected departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. These positions will likely be handling research in the areas of social and or physical sciences. This involves handling all pre and post award activities and administering research from the proposal stage to award closeout. Additional responsibilities such as financial forecasting and effort planning are essential as well. The positions' duties are broken down into the following 4 areas: Pre-Award The Grants and Contracts Specialist will manage all proposals submitted by the selected departments. They will help draft budgets, review all necessary documents and get them submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs in advance of the sponsors’ deadlines. They will also complete the PA-005 document and help track its progress as it garners approvals. Working with college leadership and faculty to identify and disseminate potential federal, private and non-profit funding opportunities. Post-Award This position monitors the department’s sponsored projects from set-up to close-out. The Specialist will monitor the fiscal health of active projects and provide budget forecasts to the PIs and the cost center managers as necessary, focusing on awards that close out in the next 365 days. They will assist the PI and OSP in submitting annual and final reports to sponsors when necessary. They will continually monitor the status of awards and alert the personnel necessary whenever an issue is discovered. They will also manage the effort planning and monitor the effort certification processes for the departments. Compliance The Specialist will collaborate with Department, College and Office of Research staff to make sure that all grant activities are compliant under all relevant policies, procedures and best practices. They will obtain necessary prior approvals for all purchases on sponsored projects. They will also review and monitor OSP monthly reports and fiscal and human resources records to be sure that all employees are appointed appropriately and accurately. Other Administrative duties This position will serve as the primary liaison between the faculty, staff, college and OSP. They will represent and college on external grant and committee meetings as necessary. They will serve as back-up to ASC grant support staff as needed and perform related administrative duties at the request of the College.

Required: Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of relevant experience; Financial management experience, grant or contract management experience, or experience performing research in the areas of social or physical sciences as part of an advanced degree. Two years of financial or grants management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; proficient in the use of MS Office applications, especially with Microsoft Excel; must have effective written and verbal communication skills.

Desired: Master's Degree with a major in a social or physical science. Knowledge of University, Office of Research and Office of Sponsored Programs policies, rules, and regulations is strongly desired; on-line financial and human resources experience/training; proficiency with Workday.

The pay range for this job profile is $51,000 - $67,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
