Job Description
Over the last several years, the University of Florida Levin College of Law has expanded our national profile through a number of strategic initiatives. The changes at the school have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report and other publications. To continue our success, we are seeking an Assistant Director of Student Life who will embraces an environment of innovation and seeks to be a part of the school during this exciting time. The Assistant Director of Student Life will assist the Director of Student Life in fostering a lively and engaging student life experience that focuses on building authentic relationships with students that encourages a culture of health and wellness and student support. The Assistant Director of Student Life of the Levin College of Law will work directly with students to solve problems and enhance J.D. and LL.M. student experiences through engaging programs, alumni and peer mentoring programs, one-on-one advising, and executing small and large-scale student events. The Assistant Director will conduct and coordinate outreach to students and identify opportunities to maximize the law school experience.
Strategic Student Event Support and Execution
Design, develop and implement workshops, programs and events tailored to address the challenges faced by law students. Identify areas and policies to improve the student experience around law school transitions and workload management. Manage and lead student life events held during orientation, and graduation. Initiating new programming and events that enhance the law school culture and experience. Create student led committees to solicit student feedback for student-centered event planning and management.
Student Group Support and Advising
Providing student organization and co-curricular support through strategic planning meetings. Advising organizations on topics including event planning, student event funding, alumni and employer engagement. Leading student groups through the student group registration and funding process. Coordinating and overseeing the student organization process including the provision of advising, training, and supporting of student organizations. Maintaining records of student group organizations and leaders and identifying potential alumni and employer partners.
Student Outreach
Providing follow-up to students identified as needing additional support and providing information to current law students to enhance opportunities to maximize their law school experience. Connecting students with the proper resources to address personal and academic concerns.
The Levin College of Law is growing and changing daily. All College of Law community members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in furtherance of our strategic goals.
Expected Salary:
$65,000 - $75,000
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and four years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Juris Doctor and/or LL.M. and legal practice experience of at least three years. Two or more years of student facing experience.
Strong emotional intelligence and listening skills, as evidenced by training in education, counseling, or mental health; a record of pro bono work with vulnerable populations; or other professional development training.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to counsel one-on-one, to lead large group programs, and to develop website and printed material for both students and faculty members.
The ability to use and refine electronic databases to monitor student progress.
A proven track record of creative problem-solving and success working in a team environment.
