Job Description:

The Body Image and Stigma Lab in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida is accepting applications for a postdoctoral associate to begin in the Summer or Fall of 2025 (start date is negotiable). The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year. This individual will serve as the project manager for an NIH-funded clinical trial, led by Dr. Rebecca Pearl. The trial will test the effects on internalized health-related stigma of a group intervention, and of peer support, among patients with a range of stigmatized health conditions.

Specific duties include oversight of: trial recruitment, screening, and enrollment (including conducting participant screening interviews); data collection and management; intervention delivery and participant retention; supervision of research coordinators, graduate students, and research assistants; preparation of regulatory and data and safety monitoring plan reports; assistance with manuscript preparation; and other administrative tasks.

Clinical opportunities may be available if desired, including serving as a trial interventionist (although this is not required). The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate on research studies related to obesity and stigma and to participate in didactic seminars with other postdoctoral associates in the department.

Time and support for the candidate's own research will be provided. Remote work options are available.

Expected Salary:

$61,008 annually, commensurate with experience level and in accordance with current NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines.

Postdoctoral associates are eligible for comprehensive health and leave benefits and have access to libraries and other research resources available for faculty and postdoctoral associates. Additionally, postdoctoral trainees receive funds each training year to support professional development (e.g., travel to workshops or national conferences, purchase of educational materials).

Minimum Requirements:

This position requires a Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, public health, or related health field;
  • Excellent research and statistical skills;
  • Effective problem-solving and communication skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently;
  • Strong record of publications;
  • 1-3 years of clinical trial/clinical research experience;
  • Proficiency working with REDCap is a plus though not required
  • Training in cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance-based therapies (e.g., DBT, ACT) and/or experience conducting group psychotherapy (though not required)

Special Instructions to Applicants:

In order to be considered, candidates must submit their curriculum vitae, cover letter articulating their interests in the lab, and a list of references.

Final candidate will be required to provide official transcript to the hiring department upon hire. A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible. Degrees earned from an education institution outside of the United States are required to be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/.

Preferred start date is Summer or Fall of 2025, but start date is negotiable.

Applications will be accepted until 12/31/2024 and reviewed immediately. Interviews will be conducted remotely via video-conferencing platforms (e.g., Skype, Zoom).

Application must be submitted by 11:55 p.m. (ET) of the posting end date.
