Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

UNC-Chapel Hill collaborates with nearby NC State University to extend both universities’ temporary staffing power by operating as a shared service for both institutions. Under this partnership, University Temporary Services (UTS) provides exclusive temporary staffing services to UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State, employing candidates to work as temporary employees in a variety of jobs on both campuses.

Working at the one of these prestigious universities provides employees with the opportunity to gain valuable on-campus experience and references while acquiring and refining skills needed for a successful career. Positions vary in length from several days to several months and we offer part-time and full-time schedules.

Position Summary:

The Carolina Union Student Organization (CUSO) Purchasing Officer will join the Carolina Union Business and Finance team, which provides vital financial and business services for the Carolina Union and its student organizations. This role is essential in supporting student organizations by managing and recording day-to-day financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring student groups operate within their allocated budgets.The Purchasing Officer serves as a resource for CUSO, ensuring compliance with financial policies and assisting student organizations in navigating financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and manage daily financial transactions for student organizations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all transactions.
  • Monitor budgets to ensure student organizations stay within allocated amounts.
  • Provide guidance and support to student organizations on financial policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Carolina Union Business and Finance team to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in a field related to accounting or business, plus at least one year of experience in purchasing, bookkeeping, or reconciling.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with vLookups and pivot tables.
  • Proficiency in providing exceptional customer service to all Carolina Union stakeholders




Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

* Demonstrated ability to follow guidelines, regulations, and policies and the ability to interpret and explain routine policies and procedures in a clear and consistent manner to customers.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of personal computer, word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
* Demonstrated high level of detail and organization, professionalism and discretion, and an ability to adapt easily, follow through, and strong work ethic to complete tasks, and resolve issues.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Carolina is about 30 miles from the state capital, Raleigh, and 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
