Position Summary:
A-State’s Department of Mathematics & Statistics invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 16, 2025. We seek candidates with research interests that complement faculty research areas, such as Bayesian analysis and Bayesian computation methods, but candidates in all areas of statistics will receive full consideration. Official review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
The department offers general education and service courses as well as courses that support the following degree programs:
· Actuarial Science, B.S.
· Mathematics, B.S. and M.S.
· Mathematics Education, B.S.E. and M.S.E
· Statistics, M.S.
We also offer undergraduate minors in mathematics and statistics, certificates in undergraduate statistics and graduate statistics, and a Ph.D. Minor in Statistics. Our faculty are devoted to teaching, maintaining strong research programs, and actively participating in local and national professional societies in statistics and/or mathematics.
Within the Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics, research-active and research-funded faculty have a reduced teaching load. New faculty have a reduced service load and may negotiate for a reduced teaching load for the first two years. A-State offers some internal research funding opportunities and regularly provides training and support in writing external grants.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain an active research agenda with a strong potential for external funding
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics and (if applicable) undergraduate courses in mathematics
- Participate in a team environment that supports and implements strategies for curriculum development, continuous improvement and assessment of student learning, and excellence in teaching
- Serve on committees at the department, college, and university levels
- Regular, reliable attendance on campus
- Set goals that align with the university mission, vision, and strategic plan
- Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated ability in teaching
Ability to establish and implement a scholarly agenda.
Knowledge of general practice; Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact professionally and collegially with students, faculty, and all members of the A-State community.

University computer labs are well-equipped, with access to R, SAS®, MINITAB® and SPSS®, and allow students to program using full versions of statistical software packages.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed all degree requirements for a Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field with a focus on statistics by August 15, 2025.
Applicants must have documented successful teaching experience in statistics in the college setting (may include TA experience).
Applicants must have demonstrated ability in statistical research.

The Arkansas State University System is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to serve staggered seven-year terms. The trustees hire the system president, approve the curriculum, annually approve an operating budget, and establish policies for the efficient and effective operation of the institutions.
