About AI4OPT

AI4OPT is one of the 27 National Artificial Intelligence Research Institutes set up by the National Science Foundation to conduct use-inspired research and realize the potential of AI. The AI Institute for Advances in Optimization (AI4OPT) is focused on AI for Engineering and is conducting cutting-edge research at the intersection of learning, optimization, and generative AI to transform decision making at massive scales, driven by applications in supply chains, energy systems, chip design and manufacturing, and sustainable food systems. AI4OPT brings together over 80 faculty and students from Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, University of Southern California, UC San Diego, Clark Atlanta University, and the University of Texas at Arlington, working together with industrial partners that include Intel, Google, UPS, Ryder, Keysight, Southern Company, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Job Summary

Georgia Tech is hiring a research engineer to conduct cutting-edge research in AI and optimization to improve transportation and mobility systems. This position is at Georgia Tech's AI Institute for Advances in Optimization (AI4OPT), in conjunction with the Socially Aware Mobility Lab (SAM). Strong technical skills and coding expertise in Python, Julia, or C++ are required. Successful candidates will contribute to research projects and will have the opportunity to supervise students and manage projects.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct cutting-edge research in AI and optimization.

  • Contribute to research projects.

  • Oversee/manage students and projects.

Required Qualifications
  • A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or

  • A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or

  • A Doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful deployment of at least one pilot in mobility

  • PhD or at least three papers in the area of transportation

  • Experience working with public transit agencies.

  • Using and/or programming in the following software technologies

  • Operating Systems: Linux (Red Hat, Fedora, Debian, and Ubuntu), Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS with the command line environment.

  • Software languages and Database Technologies: C#, C++, Python, and Latex.

  • Software coding tools: Visual Studios Code (VScode) and GitHub.

  • Optimization libraries: Gurobi, CPLEX, OPL, and OR-Tools

  • Cloud computing software: Kubernetes, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

  • Containers and Virtual Machines (VMs): Apptainer (previously Singularity), Docker, or Podman.

  • High Performance Computing (HPC) software: MPI, OpenMP, and Slurm.
