Job Summary/Basic Function
The department of Biology is accepting applications for part-time instructor responsible for teaching undergraduate biology courses on an as-needed basis. The Biology Department at times needs temporary part-time Instructors to fill in for faculty on sabbaticals or leaves.

Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching biology courses, including both lecture and laboratory, at the introductory level. Relevant courses include, but are not limited to, BIOL 100 (General Biology) and BIOL 101 (Foundations of Biology).

  • While the Department's primary instructional need is for BIOL 100/101 instructors, additional opportunities to teach "core" lab-based courses, such as Concepts of Botany, Concepts of Zoology, Cell & Developmental Biology, or Genetics & Molecular Biology are possible based on situational need.



The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Biology or related discipline.
  • One degree (Bachelor's or Postgraduate) must be in the Biology and the other in the same or a related discipline.
    • Related disciplines to Biology include: Life Sciences, Medical, or Biochemical, or any other academic science degree with ≥12 credits of Biology or Life Science courses, or a degree in any other academic field accompanied by a significant number (≥18 credits or equivalent) of Biology or Life Science courses. Work/research experience in the Life Sciences may also be counted towards course/credit equivalency at the discretion of the TPTF search committee.


  • Broad experience with fundamental biological concepts.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration for class teaching assignments.
    • Teaching demonstrations will be lecture-based and focus on a committee-selected topic representative of fundamental biological content taught in the course(s).
  • Successful completion of three background checks.


Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or ABD in Biology or related discipline.
    • Related disciplines include: Life Sciences, Medical, or Biochemical, or any other academic science degree with ≥12 credits of Biology or Life Science courses, or a degree in any other academic field accompanied by a significant number (≥18 credits or equivalent) of Biology or Life Science courses.
    • Life Science degree may include an M.D. or D.V.M. provided that transcripts confirm ≥3 semesters of Biological/Life Science courses.


  • Prior college-level teaching experience.
