The Opportunity

The Department of Advertising at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications invites applications for a full-time, nine-month senior scholar at the rank of Associate- or full Professor in Advertising. The Department of Advertising is comprised of 18 high-performing full-time faculty shaping the future of advertising. The department seeks to add a dynamic advanced-level colleague who will contribute to its mission to bridge advertising scholarship and pedagogy with industry practice.

Position Description

The UF Department of Advertising seeks to hire a distinguished senior scholar engaged in scholarly research and grant acquisitions that complement our strengths in digital and social media advertising, consumer behavior, health/science communication, or emerging technologies such as AI and AR/VR in advertising. Applicants must have achieved the rank of full Professor or be an advanced Associate Professor when their packet is submitted. The successful candidate has an internationally recognized research record, a robust portfolio of publications in top-tier journals, significant success in securing extramural funding, and demonstrates proven excellence in advising graduate students. They are also expected to mentor junior faculty, contribute to the department's leadership, advance the research agenda, and foster interdisciplinary collaborations across the College and University and with other national or international institutions.

In addition to scholarship, the ideal candidate will bring experience in teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students on topics related to the faculty member's expertise. Preferably, they will demonstrate competence in teaching one or more courses from the core curriculum for the advertising major or bring new courses relevant to the goals of training undergraduate students. Core courses for the undergraduate major include but are not limited to Principles of Advertising, Advertising Strategy, Branding, Digital Insights, Media Planning, and Advertising Campaigns.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Associate Level: PhD in an applicable field; Evidence of successful teaching, and research; Distinguished record of achievement nationally.

Professor Level: PhD in an applicable field; Recognized nationally or internationally and an outstanding teacher in his/her field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Are an advanced Associate Professor or have achieved the rank of full Professor. Have an active record of published research and scholarship in the field of Advertising or related areas of communications that complement proven areas of strengths in the department and college. Have experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in advertising, branding, media planning, mass communications theory, or research methods. Can successfully demonstrate funded collaborative partnerships with other scholars in the disciplines associated with communications or among disciplines outside of communications (e.g., artificial intelligence, health, science, engineering, sustainability)
