Position Summary:

The Prospect Development Analyst is a member of the Advancement Operations staff, reporting to the Director of Prospect Management and Research. The position supports fundraising efforts by identifying, researching, and rating prospective University constituents (i.e., individuals, corporations, and foundations) using on-line databases and other sources of information. Conducts database queries and data analysis in support of prospect identification, qualification, and management. Prepares detailed profiles and reports using Microsoft Word and Excel. Assists in maintaining prospect tracking database, reviewing fundraising staff documentation for prospect management updates, and implementing other prospect data projects as assigned. Works closely with a core group of fundraisers to meet their prospect research and data analysis needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

FOUR-YEAR DEGREE IN A DISCIPLINE RELATED TO THE FIELD ASSIGNED AND ONE YEAR OF RELATED TRAINING OR EXPERIENCE; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of research and data analysis/management experience.
  • Experience in prospect research and management within an academic, nonprofit, corporate, or consulting environment.
  • Experience working with CRM platforms.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, techniques, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of key information resources, including biographical, news, financial, corporate and government sources.
  • Strong client service orientation and follow-through.
  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with fundraisers and staff, and to prepare prospect reports.
  • Excellent judgment to deal with and disseminate confidential information.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office suite of products, including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work, and manage multiple, diverse, and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.

Essential Tasks:

  • Independently evaluates and synthesizes biographical and financial data to assess a prospect’s gift capability, philanthropic interests, and relationships.
  • Organizes, edits, and presents information in formats that will best meet the research requestor’s needs.
  • Accesses and gathers biographical and financial data on individuals, corporations, and foundations from in-house files, online services, Internet sources, campus and public libraries, county and state offices, and other external sources. Full knowledge of electronic and printed prospect research resources is essential.
  • Interpret and synthesize biographical and financial data and provide written profiles for purposes of prospect qualification.
  • Reviews and discusses research findings with fundraisers and recommends cultivation and solicitation strategies. Must exercise sound judgment skills and can handle confidential materials and situations with sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Work independently and prioritize multiple assignments in order to meet competing deadlines from a core group of fundraisers.

Essential Tasks:

  • Utilizes technology and software products to find new prospects and assess prospect gift capability. Disseminates findings to fundraisers.
  • Assists in carrying out electronic screening and data mining projects.
  • Reviews printed and electronic news sources in order to identify potential donors (individuals, corporations, and foundations).
  • Collects, summarizes, interprets, and disseminates information to fundraisers that verifies prospect wealth, interests, inclination to give, and relationships to other University constituents and programs.
  • Determines and assigns initial prospect rating on prospect tracking system.
  • Monitor electronic news sources for information on selected constituents; evaluates quality of information before disseminating to fundraisers. Proactively utilizes electronic screening and data mining tools such as iWave and EverTrue to produce prospect lead reports .
  • Recommends and helps evaluate new tools and services to aid in the identification and research of prospective donors.

Essential Tasks:

  • Responsible for insuring the accuracy, validity and integrity of data being added to the prospect tracking portion of the Banner alumni/development database which pertains to the University’s major gift prospects.
  • Reviews and analyzes action items from call reports of fundraisers and makes decisions regarding updates to prospect solicitation, capability, and interest data.
  • Participates in scheduled prospect review sessions with fundraisers.
  • Assists in on-going database enhancement projects.
  • Contributes to the quality control and assurance process with regard to biographical/gift data maintained on Banner by reporting inconsistencies to Data Manager.

  • Determine which database elements to include in analysis following a needs assessment with fundraising staff members.
