Position Summary:This position is on the Pruning Crew and is responsible for helping perform maintenance, structural and rejuvenation pruning of campus landscape plants. This position is a manual labor position that will work with the crew on pruning task under the direction of the Landscape Pruning Specialist. This position will have good working knowledge of proper pruning techniques and plants on campus. This position is responsible for assisting with keeping campus landscape plants maintained using the proper pruning techniques and helping complete work assigned to the crew. This position may be asked to direct the crew in the absence of the Landscape Pruning Specialist or direct a portion of the crew throughout the day in order to complete needed work. This position assist with the training of personnel on the crew and helping complete their work throughout the day. This position will assist with ensuring the safety of the individuals on the crew as well as the safety of the campus community in and around the work site. Promote proper wearing and utilization of all PPE safety gear by crew members while working. This position may assist maintenance and horticulture crews to help get needed work accomplished when deemed necessary. May work in any aspect of grounds related work as deemed necessary to reach departmental goals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:- Plant identification abilities and knowledge of plant care and culture
- Knowledge of plant maintenance and pruning needs
- Ability to operate and maintain pruning equipment
- Experience in grounds maintenance
- Ability to operate all types of grounds maintenance and landscaping equipment to include mowers, tractors, trimmers, edgers, backpack blowers and skid steers
- Understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
- Constant physical labor 8 hours a day/5 days a week
- Extensive/constant stooping, bending, squatting and working with your hands above your head
- Lift up to 75lbs consistently throughout the workday.
- Perform heavy labor often under adverse weather climatic conditions (cold, heat, rain, snow)
