Minimum Qualifications:

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in natural resources science. Candidate should be highly motivated with the ability to work independently, plan ahead, and lead a field crew, including having a strong work ethic. Preferred Qualification: MS or higher in ecology, wildlife ecology, natural resource/wildlife management, or related field. Previous experience working in human dimensions is desirable.

Position Summary:

The Martin Gamebird and Managed Ecosystems (GAME) Lab is seeking a Research Professional to help coordinate research activities and analyze data on a grant-funded project focusing on public and private lands within the Working Lands for Wildlife network. This project will work closely with landowners and partner agencies with a goal to examine bobwhite connectivity and spatial prioritization across the bobwhite range to identify locations where conservation practices should be focused to best help bobwhites and other species utilizing similar habitats. The position may also conduct related fieldwork and assist with outreach events. The Research Professional may be responsible for assisting graduate students, and hiring, training and supervising field technicians. This position is grant-funded, and renewal is contingent upon available funding.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with landowners and partner agencies with a goal to use advanced statistical methods to examine bobwhite connectivity and spatial prioritization across the bobwhite range to identify locations where conservation practices should be focused to best help bobwhites and other species utilizing similar habitats.
  • Collect landscape data and remotely sensed datasets available from multiple state and federal resources, and will be overlaid with collected data from UGA researchers and researchers from partner agencies.
  • Use the results of the analysis to write and publish the research as lead author in peer-reviewed journals, and will write quarterly, annual and final progress reports to the project sponsor.
  • Conduct related fieldwork such as bird surveys and vegetation surveys and assist with outreach events for partner agency staff (Bobwhite Bootcamp events) and stakeholders (private landowners).
  • Collaborate and interact with a large portion of our research lab, including, but not limited to, James Martin (PI), David Tilson (Research Professional), Mukti Subedi (Post-doc), Will Lewis (Post-doc), and Clay Delancey (Research Professional). This individual will have a high degree of autonomy to conduct research and analyze data to examine Northern Bobwhite connectivity range-wide, and to find the most important areas to prioritize conservation efforts.
