Job Summary

The Manager, Network & Telecom Engineering and Operations provides consulting, design, administration, and continuous improvement leadership and oversight to support the network and telecom infrastructure needs of the University. This position is responsible for the planning, design, and implementation of campus infrastructure including wired and wireless networks, network security systems, telephony, cloud infrastructure and data centers. Responsible for all ongoing operations, maintenance, and incident response to maintain highly available and secure infrastructure. This position works closely with IT staff, project teams, facilities staff, and third parties. On-call availability for support resolution or escalation. Works occasional nights, weekends, or holidays in support of ongoing implementations and maintenance. Position requires a cell phone with call, text, and data to perform job duties.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitates and oversees all engineering activities including project management, design, and implementation of wired and wireless networking for all infrastructure services, including but not limited to LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, data centers, UPS, telephony, cloud infrastructure, and supporting systems. Ensures network and telecom solutions meet UNG and USG baselines and standards as well as industry best practices.
  • Facilitates and oversees the ongoing operations of wired and wireless networking for all infrastructure services, including but not limited to LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, data centers, UPS, telephony, cloud infrastructure, and supporting systems. Ensures network and telecom systems operate in accordance UNG and USG baselines and standards as well as industry best practices. Ensures high availability and security of network infrastructure.
  • Facilitates and participates in the initial planning, costing, requirements collection, and implementation of major university infrastructure initiatives and projects. Releases team resources to projects and workflows as needed. Coordinates the efforts of network resources with projects. Communicates with departmental and university peers to ensure designs are effective and appropriate. Consults with construction teams for campus construction and renovation projects to ensure installations meet standards and are delivered on time.
  • Facilitates and participates in the creation and maintenance of network & telecom infrastructure diagrams and documentation. Ensures the effective use of ITSM processes by team members to provide accurate and efficient incident and request resolution. Leads the creation, maintenance, and enforcement of UNG network baselines, standards, and procedures. Ensures CTO is kept apprised of all activities and issues pertaining to network & telecom infrastructure. Ensures network security is maintained and risks are identified and remediated in a prioritized fashion.
  • Performs professional development, innovation, and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Networking architecture and design; working knowledge of fiber optics, copper cabling, and the tools used to install and support these
  • Knowledge of wired and wireless network configuration
  • Understanding of network protocols and information security
  • Understanding of cloud networking resources and integrations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multi-task, manage workloads and meet deadlines

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree. Information Technology degree preferred.
  • Three years experience in networking/telecommunications design, maintenance, and repair; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ITIL, CCENT, CCNA, CWNA, or Network+ desired. Security+ preferred.
Proposed Salary $78,641 - $86,506
