Job SummaryThe University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer. The Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer leads and directs UNG's Information Technology enterprises to support and advance the university's commitment to improving the student experience and stated strategic goals, to include oversight of all aspects of the university's IT infrastructure, services, and programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and priorities. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Business Operations & Chief Operating Officer (COO) and working collaboratively with leadership within Business & Finance and stakeholders University-wide, this position provides leadership, integrative management, and direction for the university's information systems. The CIO serves as the university's senior spokesperson on issues related to information systems for administrative, operational, student support, clinical, and academic needs, and serves as a member of the COO's leadership team.
Responsibilities- Information Technology Leadership & Strategic Operations
- Partners with senior leadership, the President's cabinet, and university stakeholders in strategic and operational leadership and planning for IT services across all UNG campuses to advance the university's commitment to improving the student experience and to align with university stated strategic goals.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of current and developing IT trends, issues, technologies, equipment, and systems. Stays abreast of emerging technologies and trends in higher education and advises and educates University leadership of their impact to inform strategic decisions.
- Acts as an advocate of the university's IT mission via regular written and in-person communication with the university's leadership, faculty, staff, and students.
- Fosters innovation, prioritizes IT initiatives, and coordinates the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the university. Instills a culture of continuous improvement in IT services and solutions.
- Coordinates and facilitates consultation with members of the university community to define requirements for new technology implementations, and establishes management and accountability for current and proposed systems.
- Champions UNG implementation of University System of Georgia (USG) managed IT services, including enterprise resource planning solutions.
- Responsible for continuous evaluation, improvement, and implementation of enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plans related to IT systems.
- Information Technology Business Operations & Management
- Leads and directs the strategy, planning, budgeting, daily leadership, policy oversight, operations, and supervision of assigned reporting units.
- Identifies opportunities for the appropriate and cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems and resources, including staffing, purchasing, and in-house development, and develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for and assesses and communicates risks concerning IT spending and initiatives.
- Develops and maintains an appropriate IT organizational structure that supports the needs of the university, including assessing and making recommendations on the improvement and re-engineering the IT organization, as well as supervising the recruitment, development, and retention of IT staff.
- Oversees the planning, development, implementation, and management of IT infrastructure, including networks, systems, and applications.
- Ensures the security, reliability, and availability of university IT services.
Builds and leads a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional development, and accountability.
- Unit Financial Planning & Management
- Manages the IT budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective solutions.
- Develops, tracks, and manages the university IT operating and capital budgets, reviewing and negotiating IT acquisition and maintenance contracts to capitalize on economies of scale.
- External Relationships & Compliance
- Serves as the primary liaison between IT and university stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students.
- Maintains professional contacts and oversees strategic relationships with external entities, including USG Information Technology Services (USG/ITS) and other USG institutions, as well as government, vendor, and professional organizations, concerning IT systems and initiatives.
- Gathers feedback from users to inform IT service delivery and improvement initiatives.
- Promotes digital literacy and awareness among the university community.
- Ensures reliable, consistent delivery of IT services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of system performance, and ensures IT system operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations. Ensures compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and best practices in data management and cybersecurity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of technology-based management principles; budgetary management in a complex environment; personnel management in a technical environment; and higher education governance structures and cultures.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and data governance.

- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a closely related field required.
- 10+ years experience in managing technology, including at least five years managing technology in a higher education environment, with a demonstrated progression of responsibilities.
- Demonstrated track record of developing and executing successful IT strategies and initiatives within higher education environment.
- Experience in data, network, hardware, operating, and software systems.
- Technical certifications in various instructional technologies desired.
