The primary duties of the automotive instructor include classroom teaching and lab instruction in a correctional facility. The instructor is expected to require and implement industry standards regarding safety including OSHA, State, and LSCPA safety and health standards. Other responsibilities include curriculum management, recruiting and advising students, service to the campus, and participating in campus events. Teaching assignments may include day and evening classes. The instructor must pass and maintain their security clearance in order to teach for the prison. Performs other related duties as required.
The instructor must communicate with students, faculty and staff in professional manner and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
The automotive instructor reports to the Director of Correctional Education and Chair of Business and Technology Department. There are 2 (two) openings for this position.
Graduate of an accredited two-year college or university with an Associate of Applied Science and A.S.E. certification is required. Experience that includes typical automotive repair activities.
Three to five years of industry experience and teaching experience are required. Industry experience may be substituted for education.
Must pass and maintain security clearance to teach for the prison.
Experience working with little or no supervision.Advanced oral and written communication skills.Management skills that require planning, scheduling, and managing projects and assignments.History of effective working relationships with others.
