The Department of Physics & Astronomy at UCLA seeks outstanding candidates for a full-time (100%) position as an Assistant Project Scientist in the area of Molecular Ion Quantum Logic. The position will focus on demonstrating quantum logic protocols on molecular ions with expected applications in quantum sensing and computation.

Tasks include managing a laboratory with state-of-the-art AMO physics tools, graduate student oversight, manuscript preparation, and scientific communication. Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, 3+ years experience and a demonstrated background directly applicable to the tasks, including experience with AMO tools, ion trapping, laser cooling, and quantum logic. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae; a publication list; and a statement of contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion; and complete a reference check authorization release form.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 37B (https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2024-25/july-2024-scales/t37-b.pdf). The salary range for this position is $74,100 - $94,200. “Off-scale salaries”, i.e. a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
