OVERVIEW
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000. The area is characterized by excellent schools with high graduation rates, low traffic, and low housing prices (Zillow average 393,000 vs. California state average of 770,000).

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, organizes, coordinates, develops, implements, and oversees the day-to-day operations of assigned student services assistance program and/or areas, serving as a liaison for students. Performs a variety of complex and highly responsible administrative and program support for assigned student services program or location.Initiates, develops and maintains strong relationships with students to ensure student access and success within specific program guidelines. Actively collaborates with the external educational and student services area staff and with internal program staff to identify and use innovative and engaging practices to maximize student success especially for students requiring additional financial or academic assistance. Demonstrates leadership to encourage and model a holistic approach to programming and student support.

This job class is a classified administrator position and requires strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Promotes a positive atmosphere and facilitates cooperation and collaboration as a representative of the assigned program in interactions with the campus community and outside agencies and schools.

College to Career (C2C) is a student services program funded by the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) that focuses on preparing students with intellectual disabilities and Autism with the necessary skills, education, and experiences to work towards competitive employment.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 20 on the Administrative Confidential Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a classified administrator position with a default CalPERS retirement.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

Essential Functions:

Provides guidance for assigned program or location, implementing specific activities and services in alignment with program guidelines to promote access to resources to facilitate post-secondary enrollment, student success, and follow up and retention interventionsAdministers day-to-day activities and operations of the assigned program or location, implements and reviews annual program goals, determines and establishes program proceduresAssists students in understanding and navigating academic and college systems, including admissions, financial aid, academic counseling, course registration, online learning management system, and college support programsDevelops, coordinates, and conducts workshops and activities for studentsProvides day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environmentMay oversee hiring, onboarding, supervision, and evaluation of classified staff and student workersMonitors student academic performance and engagement, providing guidance and referrals to academic and students services resources as neededIdentifies and actively recruits qualified students, assisting students with application paperwork, and making recommendations for final selection into assigned programOversees the creation and maintenance of student program-related records and contacts; follow proper paperwork and record keeping processes and adhere to all program deadlinesAssists in preparing announcements, newsletters, and other forms of communication regarding program-related events, activities, and initiatives.In collaboration with appropriate manager/supervisor, gathers, reviews, and maintains student success data, makes recommendations for implementing initiatives to promote student success, and identifies tools including technology to track support services and outcomesResolves issues to ensure that program objectives and policies are properly implementedMonitors and controls expenditures in line with program budget; prepares and submits required grant/contract, federal, and institutional fiscal and accounting recordsPromotes post-secondary access by involvement in various community and public school forums, boards, and committeesResearch and consult with college and community support services and organizations to identify available resources and address student needsUnderstands and implements all processes necessary for achieving grant and funding objectives where applicableWorks collaboratively with college and community educators on referrals and student recordsCoordinates and leads individual meetings and/or small group workshops for students, and community members on topics related to access to post-secondary educationKnowledge of:The K-12 California public educational system as well as community college, UC, CSU, and private postsecondary systemsGeneral academic and financial assistance proceduresPrograms and resources to support community college studentsFederal, state, and district regulations and laws regarding assigned program goals and objectives, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), California Education Code, Title 5, and the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of K-12 and community college studentsSpecialized technical and administrative principles, practices, and procedures of the assigned programsComputer and applicable software programs including database, spreadsheet, and word processing softwareSupport service needs and resources for students from backgrounds that have not prepared them for college readinessCorrect English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary for oral and written professional communicationPublic speaking and basic marketingAbility to:Engage, motivate and empower others, particularly students whose backgrounds have not prepared them for postsecondary educational settingsRelate well and work effectively in a collaborative manner with all segments of the K- 12 and college communityPromote inclusion and contributions of individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgroundsConduct program activities in alignment with funding objectives and budgetPlan, organize, and complete assignments with limited supervision, while meeting deadlines and specific program goals and objectivesRead, understand, analyze, and apply complex written materialsResearch, compile, evaluate, and verify a variety of data and informationInterpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of assigned programCommunicate effectively in written correspondence and verbal presentationsExercise sound judgment in the security of confidential information and the determination of need for student referrals to professional and community servicesExperience/Education

Education/Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Education, Social Work, Social Science, or a related fieldDemonstrated experience in building positive relationships, motivating and supporting low income and potential first-generation studentsDemonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilitiesExperience Preferred:Significant experience in coordinating and implementing programs designed to assist students in post-secondary educationExperience managing a caseload of students, working with individuals as well as groupsAdditional Information

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
