Description:Reporting to the Director of the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute, the Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher in carrying out classroom responsibilities, as well as assisting with the execution of planned activities and overall classroom management.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides a warm, nurturing classroom environment for children.
- Provides a welcoming environment for parents and families.
- Follows the procedure and schedule set forth by the staff in the classroom.
- Assists in the execution of planned activities and overall classroom management.
- Carries out the mission set forth by the Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute and Hofstra University.
- Fulfills the role of the classroom teacher in his/her absence.
- Demonstrates understanding and respect for children, their developmental needs, and interests, respect for a child’s family and culture.
- Displays commitment of continued professional development.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 1 – 2 years related experience.
- Prior experience working with young children in a childcare setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Education component/specialization preferred.
- Pursuit of a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Experience working in a National Association for the Education of the Young Children (NAEYC) Accredited childcare center a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the NAEC Accreditation Standards, NAEYC Accreditation process and Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum.
- Work experience with infants and toddlers.
