Professor Kurt Lavetti (The Ohio State University Department of Economics) invites applications for up to two full-time pre-doctoral Researcher 1 positions. The positions will be part of a collaborative team including Professors Trevon Logan and Cindy Colen, as well as post-doctoral scholars, working on a project funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. The aims of the project are to understand how the social aspects of jobs and workplaces, including factors like within-workplace earnings inequality and workplace-level demographic homophily, influence health outcomes and minority health disparities.

The principal duties will involve performing statistical analyses on large healthcare claims, insurance enrollment, and earnings databases; data preparation, organization, and cleaning; preparing internal reports on summary statistics and statistical analyses; participating in project meetings; and helping prepare and edit manuscripts.

Initial term of one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the positions have flexible starting dates any time between December 2024 and December 2025.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (including, but not limited to, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics) by the start date; 1 year relevant experience (this may include relevant student research experience).

Required Qualifications

Strong quantitative skills, including coursework in statistics and/or econometric methods; proficiency programming in Stata; excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have strong programming and quantitative skills, including coursework in statistics and/or econometric methods; excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to work independently in a self-directed role on assigned tasks; proficiency programming in R, MATLAB, or Python; proficiency in LaTeX; prior experience as a research assistant.

Additional Information:

Candidates who are preparing to apply to a quantitative PhD program will gain hands-on research experience, with the potential for possible co-authorship roles on some projects.

The target hiring range for this position is $21.11 - $27.77. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
