The Business Operations Manager is responsible for the cross-functional management and administration of resources for the Department of Economics, including but not limited to, finance, processes and operations, human capital, facilities, systems, and communication. Business Operations Managers gather and analyze data to monitor and improve performance and reinforce strategic decision making. They are responsible for aligning the strategy with business resources. They manage relationships within the organization and, at times, relationships with peer institutions or community organizations.
This role manages business operations and provides expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, expense control, and revenue enhancement. The Manager supports the Department Chair by ensuring sound financial management through effective budgeting and forecasting, as well as conducting regular financial reporting and analysis. Responsibilities include tracking financial commitments, managing fiscal processing (including procurement and travel), and completing monthly reconciliations of HR and fiscal transactions. They collaborate with HR to address staffing needs, oversee onboarding for new hires, and ensure an appropriate number of Lecturers and Graduate Associates are hired each semester.
The Manager serves as the Cost Center Manager, advising faculty, staff, and students on policies and procedures, and ensuring the reconciliation of departmental ledgers. They implement university and financial policies, approve transactions, and serve as a liaison for external grants, managing budget preparation and account maintenance.
As a leader, the Business Operations Manager resolves operational issues, supervises department staff supporting functions including, undergraduate academic advising, academic program services, and administrative assistance, and sets performance goals and benchmarks to promote growth and efficiency within the department.
Additionally, the Manager oversees student financial aid, office administrative functions, and departmental events. They are responsible for equipment and facility allocations, supervise renovation projects, and manage departmental branding and communications in collaboration with ASC Marketing and Communications.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum of 5 years of relevant business operations experience. Considerable experience using in MS Excel.
Desired Qualifications: Proficiency with Workday; experience in managing budgets, financial reconciliation, advising leaders on operations, and financial decision making; supervisory experience preferred.
Additional Information:The pay range for this job profile is $87,400 - $114,900 per year. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications
