Job Details
Supervise all programming during shift and assist when interaction is required. Problem solve when able or contact manager. This position is a temporary part-time position. The Ice Rink is normally open 18 hours per day, 7 days per week. The position is primarily an evening and weekend position scheduled to work not more than 29 hours per week and not more than 999 hours per calendar year. The shift supervisor works in support of and under the Associate Director, Assistant Manager, and Operations Manager in their absence. Must be readily available to respond to customer concerns and to supervise the Ice Rink operations and staff with a focus on ensuring safety, fiscal responsibility, and customer experience. The position must be visible to customers and staff, directly reporting to the Assistant Manager while providing and enforcing all University policies within the facility.
The shift supervisor must gain competent knowledge of the rink's point-of-sale system. The shift supervisor shall ring in sales and payments and balance the cash register at the end of each shift. All receipts both cash and check must be dropped in the safe at the end of each shift. The shift supervisor is responsible for the counting of the cashier's change bag and the manager's bag at the start and end of each shift and recording amounts into the cashier's log. Shift Supervisor dress is clean, casual, no faded, torn or ripped pants or skirts. No shorts. Top must be free of offensive or objectional graphics. No tank tops. Footwear must be closed toe, full covering. Steel toe shoes/boots recommended. No sandals or open toe shoes.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Supervise rink attendants, score keepers, referees, and housekeeping personnel during shift.
Supervise all programming during shift and assist when interaction is required. Problem solve when able or contact manager.
Customer Service - Assist customers with questions about the facility and programs offered. Answer phone calls and answer questions. Seek answers when unknown with assistance of manager.
Operate ice resurfacing equipment in a safe and responsible manner to clean the ice between group use.
Oversee rink housekeeping and general cleanliness of the facility during shifts including the supervision of other staff members and performing cleaning duties directly. Shift supervisor is responsible for sweeping all locker rooms, restrooms, common areas and emptying all trash cans at closing.
Record Chiller readings as required and report concerns to manager. Complete Shift Supervisor shift log at start of shift, during, and after shift.
In the event a scorekeeper is late or does not show, the shift supervisor must find a replacement or assume the duties of score keeping.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Demonstrated experience in operational management is required. Experience in Ice Rink operations is preferred. Availability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled. Ability to lift 24-50lbs. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse customer base. Previous retail or sales experience desirable.
