About Us
Centralia College is on a 30-acre campus of modern buildings set among walking paths, lawns, and native plantings just a few blocks from the heart of Centralia, Washington. The college has served students in the Lewis County region since 1925 and is the oldest continuously operating community college in Washington State. The city of Centralia is a historic railroad and river shipping hub with a vibrant downtown and railway station.
As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, English as a Second Language (ESL), and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers five Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.
In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Centralia College is committed to the success of all students, and thus also provides educational programs at two corrections centers in southwest Washington and one juvenile facility. In total, the college serves more than 4,800 students annually. For nearly 100 years, several generations of Lewis County residents have looked to Centralia College for their education and training needs.

Job DescriptionCentralia College is seeking qualified part-time instructors for our Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) program. This position will include teaching multilevel English Language Acquisition (ELA) courses as identified. Instructional modalities will include face-to-face and hybrid. Course assignments may vary quarter to quarter. This current opening is an evening class (6:00-8:20 pm MTWTh).
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and/or update class syllabus
- Develop and teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments to instruction
- Create and maintain an environment of rapport and respect
- Maintain up-to-date appropriate records which indicate student progress and attendance that meet college requirements Complete Faculty Assessment Tool/Project each quarter
- Present a certificate of completion of Canvas 101, or complete Canvas 101 training within the first two quarters of employment Complete mandatory CASAS trainings for assessment
- Bachelor's degree with a focus in English Language Learning, TESOL, TEFL, Linguistics or other related field from an accredited institution and two years teaching experience in adult learning or high school setting or equivalent experience or combination of education and experience.
- Experience using technologies commonly used in instruction and office environments, including ability to effectively use learning management systems in all class modalities.
- Master's degree with focus in English Language Learning English Language Learning, TESOL, TEFL, Linguistics or other related field from an accredited institution.
- Two years teaching experience in a community college or similar setting.
- Experience in curriculum design.
- Experience teaching cross-culturally, multi-level classes face-to-face, hybrid and online.
- Experience implementing Basic Skills requirements of the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, e.g., Washington Adult Learning Standards, CCRS familiarity, CASAS, etc.
- Certificate in Adult Edu, K-12, Special Ed, or TESOL

COMPENSATION:
Current lecture/lab rates ($963.57 - $1,401.40 per credit)

As the oldest continuously operating two-year public college in the state of Washington (founded in 1925), Centralia College has a rich heritage of transfer, workforce, and basic skills programs serving the community. The Region
The college is located in southwest Washington on the 1-5 corridor midway between Seattle and Portland, in a beautifully green area of forests and farmland. Wide fertile valleys are bordered by picturesque Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Range on the east, and the Willapa Hills on the west. Puget Sound and Hood Canal to the north and the Columbia River and famous Columbia River Gorge and Mount St. Helens to the south are within a short commute from the college. The populace enjoys the mild climate of the Pacific Northwest with low mean temperatures of 38 in January and a high mean of 78 in July.
Centralia College East
Centralia College East (CCEast), located in Morton, represents Centralia College's dedication to meeting educational needs of the residents of central and eastern Lewis County. CCEast provides registration services, educational advising and tutoring, Running Start, career counseling, assistance with financial aid, adult literacy tutoring, GED, T.E.E.N. program for pregnant and parenting teens, placement testing (COMPASS), and online access to Centralia College's library resources. Some classes connect CCEast students to the main campus via interactive television. The CCEast Organization of Students offers additional activities for students.
Garrett Heyns Education Center
The Garrett Heyns Education Center (GHEC) is located within the Washington Corrections Center, a medium security correctional facility situated on a 455-acre site three miles north of the city of Shelton. The Corrections Center is located 50 miles north of Centralia College's main campus and houses approximately 1,600 inmates. Centralia College has participated in an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections to provide educational services for offenders since 1975. GHEC is a branch campus of Centralia College.
