JOB SUMMARY:The Development Director will be a key member of the University Development Office, responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with donors and alumni to secure philanthropic support for Texas Southern University. This seasoned fundraiser will play a vita role in advancing the university’s fundraising goals and ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of our institution. May require travel in order to develop and maintain relationships with donors. Reports to the Vice President of Development.
Donor Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain strong, meaningful relationships with a portfolio of major donors, alumni and prospective supports, engaging them in the university’s mission and programs.
Fundraising Strategy:
- Collaborate with leadership and fundraising colleagues to create and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with university priorities, ensuring revenue goals are met. Fosters positive, lasting relationships through personal contact with donors that produce repeated and increased annual, major and planned gifts.
Prospect Research:
- Identify and qualify five new potential major donors by conducting research and analysis to determine their philanthropic interests and capacity to give to TSU in collaboration with the vice president of development monthly.
Proposal Development:
- Prepare persuasive proposals, presentations, and reports tailored to individual donors, to solicit gifts, highlighting the impact of their contributions on the university’s initiatives.
Stewardship:
- Work with the Development Director of Stewardship to implement effective stewardship plans to recognize and acknowledge donors for their support, ensuring their continued engagement and satisfaction with TSU.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the university leadership, faculty and staff to align fundraising efforts with academic and institutional objectives.
Event Participation:
- Attend and actively engage in university events, including alumni gatherings, donor receptions and fundraising campaigns, which may require travel, evenings, weekends and potential holiday work.
Data Management:
- Work with Advancement Services Director to maintain accurate and up-to-date donors in the university’s CRM system, tracking interactions, gifts, solicitations, proposals, and progress toward fundraising goals.
Team Leadership:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior fundraising staff, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented team environment.

Hiring Range:$84,429.00 - $105,536.00
Education:Bachelor’s degree required.
Required Licensing/Certification:- Fundraising certification preferred but not required.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, bother written and verbal.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
- Ability to develop creative ways to solve a problem.
- Ability to meet or exceed established fundraising goals.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in making critical decisions that will impact the university.
- A minimum of five (5) years of successful frontline fundraising experience in a higher education setting.
- Proven track record of securing major gifts and cultivating donor relationships.
- Proficiency in fundraising software and RE CRM systems.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Texas Southern University.
- Limited standing and/or walking.
- Handling light weight objects.
- Using or carrying equipment.
- Stoop, bend, or lift.
- May require routine travel.
