Position Summary:

The main research responsibility of the Postdoctoral Associate includes identification of genetic determinants of pathogenicity and race types of soil-borne fungal and oomycete pathogens that severely affect vegetable production. The Postdoctoral Associate will perform pathogen isolation and identification, and phenotype the aggressiveness and/or race types of the pathogens. They will identify candidate pathogenicity genes and conduct functional analyses by generating their knockout mutants. They may also collaborate with plant breeders to phenotype a collection of plant germplasm for disease resistance. It is anticipated that the postdoctoral associate will play a leading role in executing the project and provide technical guidance to student researchers. Presenting research progress and writing manuscripts in a timely manner is an integral part of the job responsibilities. Assisting in grant applications and providing operational support to the lab PI are expected.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

Education & Experience: PhD in Plant Pathology, Plant Sciences, or related major
Preferred Qualifications: Experience and expertise in genomics and/or transformation of filamentous pathogens

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

Requirements:· Design and perform experiments independently· Experience and knowledge in fungal and/or oomycete plant pathogens· Well-trained in plant pathology and molecular biology techniques· Excellent oral and written communication skills· Work in multicultural team
Initial appointment will be for one year; renewal will be based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
