Job SummaryThis position is responsible for management of the office of Enterprise Systems Management and the management of MGA's enterprise systems and software. This position reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). The primary location for this position is at the Macon campus but travel to other campuses will be required.
ResponsibilitiesServer Administration (60%) -
Develops and maintains system plans, policies, standards, and procedures consistent with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Develops, implements, and tests backup and recovery plans and procedures for disaster recovery and business continuity.
Oversees the operation and maintenance of MGA's server systems and software to ensure optimal performance and availability.
Ensures MGA's systems are properly secured and documented according to USG and MGA policies and standards.
Installs, configures, documents, manages, updates, patches, and supports MGA's enterprise server hardware, applications, and services.
Manages the University's Web services and maintains the Web servers and IIS configurations; develops and maintains Web site-related procedures and policies.
Manages Microsoft SQL server implementations for enterprise systems.
Maintains enterprise software licenses; prepares budget for enterprise/software licenses; maintains license records; reviews license agreements; ensures software meets University, local, state, and federal standards, regulations and laws relating to privacy and security.
Evaluates and approves server-hosted software.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Project Management (30%) -
Leads and manages enterprise-level technology projects assigned by the CIO.
Sets project priorities and goals; sets and monitors project timelines and deadlines; communicates project progress to the CIO and University administrators.
Participates in strategic planning with CIO and technology directors; Develops and implements goals that further the mission of the department and the University.
Researches current and emerging technologies and develops plans for their enterprise application and use.
Personnel Management (10%) -
Recruits, hires, supervises, schedules, evaluates performance, and mentors professional staff.
Trains employees in system administration tasks; coordinates training opportunities for staff.
Identifies, schedules, monitors, and evaluates training requirements for staff.
Devises strategies, directs team activities, and recommends outside contracts for servers and software support.
Supervises Enterprise Systems Management staff; maintains and approves time records; completes annual performance evaluations; interviews, hires, evaluates and disciplines personnel.
Educational Requirements
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
Required Experience
10 years of Windows-based system administration experience.
10 years of technology support experience.
Preferred Experience
Five (5) years of personnel management experience.
Five (5) years of Linux-based system administration experience.
Five (5) years project management experience.
Higher education experience.
Knowledge of personnel management principles and practices.
Knowledge of system administration principles and practices.
Knowledge of current and emerging server-related hardware, software, topologies, and standards.
Knowledge of server and computer installation, maintenance, and operation principles.
Knowledge of system security best practices.
Skill in managing technology projects at the enterprise level.
Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority
Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
Skill in establishing and maintaining standards, policies, and procedures.
Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
