Job DescriptionPURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Business Manager, Student Services manages and coordinates assigned areas' business functions. Creates and implements processes to ensure effective operations of Student Services using own judgment and independent discretion. Coordinates daily budget monitoring and evaluation for Student Services and provides input into budget planning and continuously monitors costs and budgets. Evaluates procedures, practices and personnel, and creates and implements processes to ensure department stays in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manages daily business operations for Student Services by coordinating operating, student life, grants, and project budgets; Provides program and operating services support to ensure efficient business functions
- Manages and supervises full-time and/or part-time staff as assigned; Gives directions, resolves problems, prepares schedules and sets deadlines to ensure efficiency of workflow
- Creates and implements business processes to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Manages resolution process for specific and operating services related to division financials, purchasing and other resources operations
- Monitors cost and budgets, provides input, and assists with budget recommendations for the annual division budget development process
- Monitors purchases and ensures compliance with policies and procedures
- Makes presentations at a variety of workshops/trainings/information sessions as needed
- Identifies, develops, and implements administrative "best practices" and re-engineers processes as needed to ensure efficiency, documentation, and information sharing
- Performs research, compiles information, analyzes data, and provides detailed reports and presentations as needed
- Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong interpersonal skills and outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Skilled in the areas of budgeting, financial administration, financial reporting, and planning
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines
- Must have initiative, be a self-starter, and have strong analytical skills
- Computer technology skills to include ability to perform complex queries and construct and run reports
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain confidential information
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Business Administration
- At least 1 year of experience working in higher education
- Experience using PeopleSoft
Hiring salary range is $58,625 - $67,419
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
