Summary of Position: The Division of The Division of Behavioral Sciences at Indiana Wesleyan University seeks applications for a full-time Social Work Faculty position. This individual would be the Director of Field Education for the BSW and Hybrid MSW programs on the residential Marion, Indiana campus. The Division of Behavioral Sciences is home to three majors: social work, psychology, and pre-art therapy, as well as a minor in sociology. We have 12 full-time faculty members and about 250 student majors. The Bachelor of Social Work program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education for more than 25 years, and the Master of Social Work hybrid program was added four years ago.

The ideal candidate will combine teaching with scholarly endeavors. Applicants should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, full agreement with the Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and commitment to liberal arts learning and the integration of Christian faith and learning.

Position to begin July 2025 pending funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and administration of the field education experiences for students in the residential BSW and Hybrid MSW programs
  • Coordinate student placements for the residential BSW and hybrid MSW programs
  • Facilitate communication between program faculty, students, field instructors, and seminar instructors
  • Teach courses each semester to support the BSW and MSW programs, creating an inclusive classroom climate that is conducive to learning. Effectively use the IWU learning management system to distribute course materials to students.
  • Provide academic advising to BSW students and counsel students on vocational issues
  • Participate in professional organizations, serve on university committees, and engage in scholarly activities within and outside the department
  • Display behavior consistent with the National Association of Social Worker’s Code of Ethics

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • A master’s degree in social work is required and an earned doctorate in social work is preferred

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years post-MSW practice experience
  • At least one (1) year of teaching experience, preferred

  • Interpersonal skills that facilitate relationship building and teamwork among colleagues, external agencies, and students
    Coordination and organizational skills

  • Evaluation skills related to the impact of teaching on learning, and the ability to make modifications in instructional design based on that evaluation
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to students in oral and written form
  • Proficiency in using computers, internet resources, MS Office and Learning Management software
