Responsibilities

The Associate Clinical Education Director (ACED) is a principal faculty member who, in alignment with a College of Medicine Clerkship Director, is responsible for the local administration and oversight of the clinical education phase of the FSU PA Program at the FSU COM (Daytona, Fort Pierce, Orlando, Pensacola, Sarasota, and Tallahassee) Regional Campus.

The ACED supports the mission of the College to educate and develop exemplary Physician Assistants who practice patient-centered health care, discover and advance knowledge and are responsive to community needs especially through service to elder, rural, minority, and underserved populations.

The ACED assists with the Clinical Education Director and Regional Campus Dean to provide oversight and ensure the quality of Supervised Clinical Practice Experiences (SCPEs) provided to PA students to meet current accreditation and practice standards.

In addition, the ACED:

• Assists the PA program, Regional Staff and Clerkship Directors to identify and secure qualified clinical faculty and clinical sites.
• Assists and participates in the development and implementation of clinical orientation activities designed to prepare clinical faculty to understand the expectations and Learning Outcomes of the clinical phase of the PA curriculum.
• Reviews all documentation regarding student supervised clinical practice every Clerkship for the PA students in their Regional Campus. (This includes ETS, CANVAS, Evaluations and Student Academics).
• Performs an initial site visit of all new sites where a PA student will participate before any student goes into the site.
• Performs ongoing site visits once a year for each of the clinical sites of the Regional Campus where PA students participate (one per site per year).
• Grades assigned SCPE assignments within two weeks of these being turned in by the student.
• Serves as the advisor to the PA students at the local Regional Campus and provides academic and career advice.
• Assists in the remediation of students in clinical areas as designated by the Clinical Development Plan.
• Meets with students on a weekly or biweekly basis in person.
• Attends, in person or virtually, the annual Education Forum of the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) and one Florida Academy of Physician Assistants (FAPA) conference yearly.
• Attends Campus monthly or bimonthly Clerkship Director meetings at the local Regional Campus.
• Attends two FSU COM Clerkship Director meetings annually (One in the Spring and another in the Fall) and the ACED retreat meeting in the Spring.
• Maintains state licensure and NCCPA certification.
• Participates in select PA program meetings at the discretion of the Program Director and the Clinical Education Director.
• Participates in program accreditation activities and is knowledgeable of ARC-PA accreditation standards.
• Additional duties as assigned by the Program Director, Regional Campus Dean and/or Clinical Education Director.
• When applicable, engage in student recruitment including, but not limited to, pipeline development or educational activities.

Qualifications

• PA-C (master’s degree or higher).
• Current NCCPA certification.
• Knowledgeable in current practice standards and the roles of Physician Assistants.
• Current Florida PA license or eligible for Florida PA license.
• A valid Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior Physician Assistant education experience.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• FAPA member.
• Minimum 3 years clinical experience.

Anticipated Salary Range

Annual salary between $50,000 to $60,000, commensurate with experience and education.
