The Opportunity:

The Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics in the College of Sciences at West Liberty University seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in mathematics. The successful candidate will be qualified to teach courses in data science, as well as general studies mathematics. Candidates should have a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.  Recent research in data-enabled science is a requirement, with special consideration given to applicants who have research experience in biomedical science, biomedical mathematics, or bioinformatics. Start-up research funding is available with this opportunity. 

Essential Functions of the position:

• Teach 24 credit hours per academic year
• Curriculum development
• Conduct research in data science
• Student advisement
• Participate in activities related to student recruitment and retention  

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Doctoral degree in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field required
• Record of peer-reviewed research in any data-enabled science required
• Graduate coursework in statistics or machine learning required
• Experience writing code in Python and/or R preferred
• Machine learning using artificial neural networks preferred
• Experience interacting remotely with high performance computing clusters preferred
• Publication(s) in biomedical science/mathematics and/or bioinformatics preferred
