Job Summary:

The School of Art and Visual Studies (SAVS) at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Art Studio/Foundations, with a specialization in Drawing to begin August 2025. Applications received by January 10th will be assured full consideration. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.The successful candidate will teach within our vibrant Foundations Program, oversee the Foundations Drawing studio, and interact with both undergraduate and graduate students working in a variety of contemporary studio art and design practices. Our Foundations Drawing program values observational approaches to form and space while also encouraging creative and conceptual thinking.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach a 2/2 load with courses in Beginning Drawing and Digital Drawing (and potentially other drawing courses based on expertise), conduct creative research, and provide appropriate service to the school, college, and university. They will also oversee Beginning Drawing courses within our Foundations program. An MFA or equivalent terminal degree in the area of studio art is required. Two years prior teaching experience as instructor of record at the college level is highly encouraged. Proficiency with fundamental perceptual drawing skills, familiarity with digital drawing technologies and processes, and knowledge of historical and contemporary artists and drawing practices are preferred. Participation in professional organizations related to Studio Art and Foundations are also welcomed.

Research

In fiscal year 2016, the University of Kentucky was awarded $316.5 million in external grants and contracts.
