Department Summary

We are the Auxiliary Maintenance Team within the Maintenance division of UNT Facilities. Our team performs the routine and preventative maintenance that is vital to the resident and dining experience within our resident halls, dining facilities and many of our Sorority chapter locations. We work in close coordination and cooperation with our partners within the Housing and Auxiliary Services Department to make residence life our number one priority. Auxiliary Maintenance is a culmination of several trades including structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and access control. We currently maintain facilities across 15 resident halls, 6 dining facilities and 7 Sorority Houses plus the Center for Sorority-Fraternity Life and the UNT Welcome Center. Our goal is to provide the most reliable, efficient and outstanding service to our residents, who rely on our maintaining their living and dining spaces so they can focus on their education. We take great pride in what we do, and strive for excellence in service daily.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for advanced skilled craftwork that involves general maintenance work. Duties include installation, maintenance, repair, and service of building systems and requires advanced skills in a primary craft and may require limited competency in a secondary craft.

Representative Tasks:
* Supports faculty and staff members by making needed repairs to offices, building and installing shelves, hanging pictures, moving furniture, etc.
* Makes periodic inspections and does incidental repairs; check functioning of doors; repairs furniture and chairs; Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
* Ensures all equipment is working properly; maintains carpet, ceiling tiles, doors and door stops, locks, lights and ballasts, tile, and restrooms for needed repairs.
* Cleans shops, performs inventory of tools and materials in and around shop and maintains tools and equipment.
* Reports needed equipment and supplies in order to maintain proper amounts of inventory to perform jobs in a timely manner.
* All other duties as assigned.
* May be required to work specific weekend events a few times a year.

** This position is considered to be essential personnel, and may require working overtime, which could include nights and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Five years' of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task.
* Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance.
* Knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings.
* Ability to use basic shop math applications.
* Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs.
* Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
* Ability to use basic shop math applications.
* Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs.
* Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.


Required License/Registration/Certifications

Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

Job Duties:

  • Completes work orders in a reasonable time frame. Regularly updates work orders in progress.
  • Does periodic inspections and makes incidental repairs on resident rooms to ensure a positive experience for the occupant.
  • Demonstrates good customer service and a professional attitude.
  • Communicates issues related to daily job duties to the supervisor when necessary or required.
  • Assists and/or cooperates with other technicians to support the team in daily maintenance tasks or job duties.
