Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The mission of Carolina Performing Arts is to spark curiosity, inspiring all members of our community to discover and more fully engage with the world. We collaborate with dynamic and compelling artists from across the globe to create novel, mission-driven performing arts experiences in partnership with our community. Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) integrates the performing arts into the core academic and teaching mission of the University through its diverse programming and engagement initiatives and champions the power of exceptional arts experiences to enrich, inspire, challenge and transform. CPA oversees all artistic programming, campus and community engagement, marketing, and fundraising for its presented performances and manages all operations of its venues including facility rentals, technical production, audience services, and ticketing.

Position Summary:

Archive Curation and Asset Management
- Lead a collaborative team of artists and CPA Artistic, Engagement, and Marketing and Communications staff in ongoing storytelling through the Southern Futures digital platform. Gathering, organizing, and curating digital content by artists and their collaborators including faculty, students, and community leaders to populate the digital platform by user groups including educators, grantors, CPA staff, artists, and arts peers. .
- Locate, prepare, and deliver digital content that is not available online directly to artist-researchers and staff.
- Find and help collaborators understand pertinent materials in relevant UNC collections and create new materials that will represent the Southern Futures at CPA project as it develops. This work will be performed in collaboration with CPA artists and campus partners including faculty, staff, students, and community members.
- Document or outsource photographic and video documentation of Southern Futures activities for the www.southernfuturescpa.org website.
- Produce and maintain archive usage documentation and training materials intended for audiences with a variety of technology skill levels and accessibility needs.
- Perform quality control for all CPA digital files, maintaining asset and archive management standards and best practices for the unit as well as training staff, collaborators and support personnel in their application as needed.

Public Engagement and Extension
- Promote the collection and engage the community-at-large through various outreach initiatives and activities including, but not limited to, the curation of exhibitions, speakers, panel discussions, and workshops/seminars in collaboration with other staff and organizations on and off campus. Targeted audiences include K-12 students, undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff, community researchers, regional history enthusiasts, academic communities, and more.
- Support the stewardship and expansion of CPA’s existing collaborations with campus and community partners and contribute to the development of new relationships.

Overall Project Support
- Propose and lead strategies for understanding and evaluating the outcomes and impacts of the archive on users, artists, and other initiative stakeholders.
- Collect and report on relevant statistics and qualitative/quantitative metrics around Carolina Performing Arts’ Southern Futures growth, management, and use.
- Serve as project manager on unit and departmental projects on a rotational basis, including but not limited to; work with artists and representatives on visit schedule; host artist in residence on site; facilitate arrangements for travel, including meals for artist and events; and schedule meetings with relevant University personnel.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills – Knowledge of and experience with interdisciplinary and applied/public facing projects and programs – Diverse and demonstrated experience in public education – Knowledge of and experience with web and interactive design, digital media production, art practice, or other forms of creative content development – Working knowledge of archival materials and methods – Demonstrated understanding of and experience with project management, excellent organizational skills, and effectiveness in balancing multiple assignments and projects – Ability to learn and integrate new tools and technologies to achieve project goals and to stay abreast of new and emerging technologies and standards in the field – Ability to build internal stakeholder relationships across the organization with staff, senior leaders, and team members in a manner that contributes to a values-driven culture – Proven ability to connect one’s own work and goals to the broader mission and values of an organization – High energy and passion for CPA’s mission and the vision for Southern Futures at CPA

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

2 or more years of experience related to the area of assignment – Interest and/or experience in digital humanities.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
