VICE PROVOST FOR FACULTY AFFAIRS
Texas Woman’s University invites applications for the position of Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. The start date for the position is February 1, 2025.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs supports the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost in leading Academic Affairs initiatives focused on faculty and academic administrator development. This role fosters faculty success; develops and implements academic policies; oversees various academic operations; and carries out other duties vital to achieving the academic mission as directed by the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. The Vice Provost may perform the Provost's duties in their absence and represents them in assigned capacities. This position involves substantial interaction with academic deans and senior administrative staff. Work is performed with minimal supervision. Performance is evaluated based on the effective operation of administrative functions, using the university's performance evaluation system and in accordance with University Policies & Procedures. This 12 month, in-person position reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Established record of teaching, research and service at a level consistent with TWU requirements for the rank of full professor.
- Demonstrated accomplishment in academic leadership, management of instruction, faculty mentorship and commitment to working with faculty, staff, and student populations from different disciplines and backgrounds.
- Five years of academic administrative leadership preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in research, best practices, and emerging trends in teaching and learning, scholarship, service, and leadership.
- Proficiency in University-level faculty support and retention programs.
- Ability to provide administrative guidance and apply budgetary and fiscal planning techniques.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage complex operations and multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups in a collaborative environment.
- Commitment to personal and professional development.
Essential Duties - May include, but not limited to the following:
- Acts as Provost's representative and may perform Provost's duties in their absence.
- Leads key academic strategic initiatives and manages specific projects.
- Oversees faculty development, distance education, and academic support services.
- Plans, coordinates, and evaluates goals and objectives of the Center for Faculty Excellence.
- Ensures effective operation of supervised units through program development and process improvement.
- Serves as liaison between central administration and academic support service units.
- Manages budget for the Vice Provost’s office and oversees budgets for academic support units.
- Represents supervised units to external constituencies.
- Oversees academic policy review, updates, and compliance with regulations.
- Manages faculty success initiatives, including development, evaluation, awards, grants, and leaves.
- Serves as a resource for faculty status changes (tenure, promotion, post-tenure review, emeritus status).
- Maintains compliance with federal, state and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Serves as liaison to the Council of Chairs.
- Develops and administers faculty mentorship programs.
- Establishes job standards and evaluates staff according to University policies and procedures.
