Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

Under general supervision functions as Instructor and Laboratory Manager. The Department of Engineering (ENGR) in Texas Southern University is seeking to fill a Technical Specialist position full-time. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the engineering department laboratories (electronic test laboratories, computer teaching laboratories).

Essential Duties Summary:

  • Laboratory Manager, inspects and maintains both hardware and software in Labs, and ensure they are in good working condition. (Computers, Printers, Multimeter, Function generators, Oscilloscope etc.).
  • Work with OIT for software installation.
  • Submit requisitions/ replace equipment.
  • Sources for Laboratory equipment, request quotations and purchases as needed by the department and faculty members.
  • Takes delivery of Purchased equipment, Electronics and Digital system components. Distribute all of these into the respective labs for use.
  • Conducts minor troubleshooting whenever certain equipment or component are not working.
  • Assists faculty with the equipment in some situation.
  • Enforce laboratory safety rules.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range:

$48,273.00 - $60,341.00

Education:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field.

Knowledge of:

  • Federal, State, Local, and County laws.
  • Policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge in multiple disciplines. Acts as the ultimate subject matter expert in several professional disciplines and is the “go-to” expert on principles, methods and procedures. Requires the ability to create methods and approaches to handle unique situations.
  • Management and supervisory practices.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.

  • Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
  • Some stooping, lifting, or carrying objects light weight may be required.
