Scope of Job:
The Civil Engineering (CIVE) Department at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for at least one Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position with a focus on Construction Engineering and Management (CEM). The successful candidate(s) is expected to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to CEM topics such as construction methods and equipment, construction estimating, construction scheduling, construction planning, construction finance, project management, contracts and alternative dispute resolution, and others. The successful candidate(s) is expected to demonstrate the ability to conduct high-quality research, attract external funding, and collaborate with other researchers within the department and the college. Examples of expected research areas may include Artificial Intelligence in Construction, Data Analytics, Smart Buildings, Digital Twins, Sustainable Construction, Construction Safety, BIM, Scan-to-Bim, AR/VR in Construction, Energy Efficiency, Automation in Construction, Project Delivery, Legal Affairs, Disaster Resilience, Digital Twins, Smart Infrastructure, Infrastructure Condition Monitoring, and other topics. Preference will be given to candidates who will develop multidisciplinary research to support newly founded Ph.D. programs at the College of Engineering and Computer Science, which include the Ph.D. program in computer science with interdisciplinary applications and the Ph.D. program in materials science and engineering. This position is also expected to provide a level of other services to the Department, College, and University, such as student mentoring, development and participation in outreach activities, internship, and professional-mentoring program, and others. The positions are for tenure track assistant professors; however, exceptional candidates may be considered for credit toward time on tenure track.

Department Background: The UTRGV Civil Engineering Department is dedicated to delivering a comprehensive and high-quality education that prepares students for leadership roles in the civil engineering field. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE), equipping students with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel in various civil engineering practices. Accredited by ABET, the programs ensure adherence to the highest standards of engineering education. The curriculum spans multiple civil engineering disciplines, including Structural, Geotechnical, Transportation, Water Resources, and Environmental Engineering. The department has experienced consistent growth in student enrollment, reflecting the rising demand for civil engineers in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond, with over 780 students currently enrolled. Fostering a collaborative learning environment, the department encourages hands-on experiences through internships, research projects, and involvement in professional organizations like the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE). College Background:The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) is one of the fastest growing colleges at UTRGV. The College recently founded a Ph.D. program in computer science with interdisciplinary applications and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in materials science. The College also houses several research centers such as the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Cyber Systems (CAMICS), the Center for Nanotechnology, the Industrial Assessment Center, the NSF Center for Multidisciplinary Research Excellence in Cyber-Physical Infrastructure Systems (MECIS), the University Transportation Center for Railway Safety (UTCRS). Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field from an accredited university. All but Dissertation (ABD) will be considered if degree is conferred no later than the start date.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
- Ability to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in CEM.
- Evidence of high-quality research in CEM.
- Potential to attract and maintain externally funded research projects.
- Willingness to collaborate with other research on the department and college levels and externally.
- Capability to balance research, teaching, and service duties.
Preferred Qualification:
- Previous experience developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in CEM.
- Strong record of academic achievements and research publications.
- Evidence of successful research proposals to external funding agencies such as USDOT, TxDOT, DOE, or others.
- Demonstrated ability of mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

A New University with a Long History
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.
Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.
UT Brownsville and UT Pan American
The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.
Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
