Description:

Reporting to the Associate Director for Digital Infrastructure Networking, the Network and Infrastructure Project Administrator supports the University’s communications infrastructure technologies, including the University’s wired and wireless voice and data networks and the supporting in-building and underground cabling. This position supports the planning and design of MDF/IDF rooms including rack locations, cable tray layouts, and structured cabling infrastructure for new construction and building renovations. The Network and Infrastructure Project Administrator interfaces with stakeholders across the project lifecycle, from reviewing operational needs and defining requirements through execution and implementation. The incumbent supports the daily operation of communication systems and services and ensures reliability by performing analytical troubleshooting for all components within the infrastructure.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans and coordinates the implementation of outdoor underground and inbuilding cabling.
  • Designs cabling for communication systems, services, and ensures alignment with structured cabling standards and best practices.
  • Conducts Wi-Fi surveys and troubleshooting.
  • Reviews communications design documents (as-built drawings).
  • Performs site walkthroughs, issue updates, and field observation reports.
  • Interfaces with construction teams to implement communications services in new/renovated buildings.
  • Coordinates status updates and meetings with communications service providers.
  • Serves as a liaison between internal and external design and construction team members, providing outstanding communication and customer service.
  • Reviews and analyzes RFI responses, RFP proposals and vendor quotes, to recommend effective solutions which provide optimal value.
  • Coordinates and tracks deliveries of communications products and services.
  • Coordinates pre-installation site visits to determine requirements to support the service implementations.
  • Manages external vendors providing communication service repairs.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of the communication systems equipment and circuits.
  • Supports the enterprise telephony system, peripheral equipment, SIP circuits and applications.
  • Coordinates troubleshooting activities and conducts follow-up analysis with vendors.
  • Participates in the review of upcoming technology upgrades and helps to determine the optimal balance between functionality, consistent/reliable operations, and security for each deployment.
  • Responds with flexibility to shifting priorities while meeting schedules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least two years of experience with communications technologies.
  • Experience with designing structured cabling for systems and services.
  • Knowledge of networking standards for voice and data technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of copper ethernet and fiber optic cabling, connector standards and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience surveying and developing equipment layouts on floor plans and rack diagrams.
  • Experience with VoIP and UC applications with resourceful problem solving.
  • Knowledge of call delivery over SIP trunking, voicemail, call detail recording and remote administration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications technology, computer science, or related field preferred.
  • Understanding of BICSI principles and standards.
  • Experience developing technology plans and specifications with multi-discipline project teams.
  • Experience integrating project requirements into facility designs.
  • Knowledge of basic Wi-Fi standards and radio frequency concepts associated with Wi-Fi technology.
  • Experience with electrical power requirements and specifications.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based systems (e.g. telephony) and migration strategies.
  • Familiarity with Cisco’s equipment platform including voice appliance applications, basic ethernet network switching concepts and features, Wi-Fi access points and centralized and controller concepts.
